I'm sure there is a logical explanation, but whats the deal with all of the open space above the grandstands and beside the suite sections that looks like an erector set?

no one seems to know.

That's LSU planning for the future expansion of the suites from the current 18 (plus President's suite) to 30. If there was no need for any suites, there would still be a need for the beams to hold up the roof for the covered grandstand. It may look a little unusual, only because LSU has the biggest covered grandstand in all of college baseball. The only collge stadium that comes close to the new Alex Box's covered seating is Baum (Arkansas). Once they build the last 12 suites, it will pull the whole design together.

There's a cantilevered canopy above the grandstands and it seems like that is all of the structural bracing and supports for it. You can see it on one of the photos from the side.

So in the mean time why dont they cover that shite with something? They could put down purple and gold banners for all I care.. It simply looks unfinished the way they are leaving it. Its the only thing I do not like about the new park. Looks like they attached some mobile homes to support beams and called them suites.

Banners, etc wouldn't really need to be put up rigt now would they? I mean, all of that stuff (flags, etc) would be done day before the opener right?

That would be cool to put some vertical banners there to take place of the "intimidator".

Well, since they haven't opened the new Alex Box yet, I can't say whether they will or won't. We'll all find out soon enough. And even though they may not have anything on opening day, doesn't mean they won't in the future. That would not seem to be a priority at this point. Getting the parking lots, perimeter fencing and other opening necessities completed are the priority.

Either way, if LSU wins another CWS in the next couple of years, I am betting there will be enough demand for more suites and that space will be filled.

Im not talking right now.. But I would like to see them do something with it at one point. Get the stadium finished first. But if we have to look at those open holes for 4 years I will be disappointed. I have not seen anything done in the renderings to it either.. But would look pretty nice with some Purple vertical covering over it with LSU on it. Or anything to cover it really.

I agree with this. That's the only thing so far that I'm not liking about the "look" of the new stadium.

There's already a waiting list for more suites.

I'm curious as to why they just didn't go ahead and put in the extra suites if there's already a waiting list. Why not just do it all at once?

We haven't seen any pics of the men's crapper. Let's make sure that's ready for opening night.

Maybe there wasn't enough time to add more suites and have it ready to play by February 20.

100% agree. Definitely not priority one but hope they get around to it.

Im guessing you want to one day point to a toilet in Alex Box and tell your kids: "I was the first person to ever shite on this toilet in Alex Box"

Get your facts straight. The completion date was December 23, 2008 and it is now April 22, 2009 according to the contract. There are many reasons for extensions of time: rain, owner changes etc... As I said before, they are finishing early, by exactly 3 months.

According to my sources, there are approximately 175 men working on that site daily.

They might need to bring in about 2000 Mexicans to finish it.

Seriously whatever is or isn't going on I hope they don't just cut corners or whatever to half-arse complete it. Some of those pics do look pretty sweet from what I can see of it. Got to drive by one day this week and take a look.

Both my one and only favorite college and mlb teams are going into new stadiums this season...both had character, tradition and history. It's going to take some time breaking them in and getting use to everything different and all, but both are significant upgrades. Looking forward to the season.
