Negative recruiting and the negatigers

On the ride home last it was mentioned in the post game that Patrick Surtain was all in with Orgeron and LSU but social media changed his mind. In short, they said he implied that due to the toxic atmosphere around Orgeron with the fans, he was worried about signing for a school with a lame duck head coach. Me personally, I believe that he starts for us this year and would have made a difference last night. Again, this supposedly came from the kid. It is something to consider as you post anonymously on this board. This is the best sports board in the land that I gave come across. Having what was originally an LSU based sports board being used against LSU football is, in a pretty sad way, ironic. Hopefully with a couple of more big wins, this board can be a plus on the recruiting side.

It’s very ironic and very sad. And yes kids these days are paying attention to everything said on the internet. as ridiculous as that may be, it’s happening everyday

I do like how now everyone's concerned about criticism on message boards about the coaching when no one seemed to give a frick about it for years.

How do you know by saying “social media” he meant tigerdroppings? To me it’s more likely he meant the things he saw on his Twitter feed. He would have to go searching for negative info to find it on here.

Not really. Surtain was all LSU. Alabama had to convince him to renege on his position. It wasn't going to be just the positives about Bama. It was going to be why going to LSU was a mistake. When LSU fans lose their minds over a 9-4 season and ridicule their coach, that helps Bama.
I swear if I were a coach of another school, I would 100% find a way to make sure that he saw every nasty, negative thing about the competition.
This is not a debate about whether message boards, Twitter and the like impact recruiting. They absolutely do. It is really a question about to what degree.
I'm sure the folks that were most negative all offseason have convinced themselves it's only minor. It's more important for the program to get rid of Coach then to have a successful recruiting class. I'm sure for the pro-O crowd, it will become THE reason Surtain is wearing crimson and, thanks to how the season has started, they will constantly beat on the negas about the damage they did last offseason to the program they claim to support.
To me, it is in the middle. I think it can be a thumb on the scale and, as such, I think it does behoove all of us to tone it down a little. And, frankly, it makes me err on rushing to judgment about any particular coach, player, or perceived problem.
I save my vitriol for the over-the-top negas.
