Simmons left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and I'm sure LSU left a bad taste in his as well. But imagine the possibilities if he had played on this team right now. Take away Naz and insert Simmons and think about how you would feel about him. No doubt he would be loved and respected and I'm sure he would have much more love for P&G in that case as well.
That team had a crapload of talent as well. Simmons blakeney victor Sampson and quarterman were all big time recruits. Sure some of that is on coaching but that same coach made the tourney the year before. Some is on the other players but a lot is on Simmons. The biggest win of the season vs Kentucky he spent most of the game on the bench in foul trouble iirc. Or at least a half. There was also plenty of games where he filled up the stat sheet but down the stretch in a close game he was extremely passive and we lost. When you are the number 1 draft pick I think people expected a certain dawg to be in him and not defer as much. At least at the college level. The problem for him now and then is he’s not a shooter

Simmons game was not built for college basketball that doesnt have defensive 3 seconds. Not sure why so many people have such a hardtime understanding why he excels in the pros compared to college but that rule is why. Teams could camp the paint on him since he cant shoot, where as in the nba the whole court is spaced. Johnny Jones was also one of the worst coaches ive ever watched in history.

Simmons didn’t care about winning anything at LSU and Naz does. It’s pretty simple.
Simmons was pretty open about treating his time in college as a chore and shockingly, did not endear himself to the fans the way he could have

he will. but, to be honest, he could probably use another year in college.
the last thing a guy like naz needs is another year in college.
his game really isn't going to be developed individually here. he'll improve his game a lot more in the next year if he goes to the nba, even if he doesn't get to play much next season.

Ben was a decent college player. But it was his effort and not giving a shite that bothered me most.

EVERYONE on this team is leaving. I'll make a $20 bet that NOBODY who's top 7 in minutes played this year is on this team next year. Who's going to stay on a program under NCAA investigation?
Regardless of how this plays out, Mays will be here next year.

Would you stay if Wade was gone next year?
Posted on 3/27/19 at 12:01 pm to Ignignot
Why can't we like and support them both?
I don't understand why some tiger fans always have to shite on former players. It's not Simmons' fault he had to go to college for a year.

I think his game was built just fine for college basketball. More like Johnny Jones was not built to coach college basketball

The conflict we saw with Quarterman, we'd see with Waters and Smart. Mays might be content spotting up waiting for a pass, our other guards wouldn't.

Naz is a great Tiger.
Simmons...not so much.
Thee End.

We traded Jarrell Martin and Jordan Mickey for Ben Simmons Craig victor and Antonio blakeney. One team made the tourney and one refused an invite to the nit. Jones deserves some blame and paid the price of it by losing his job. That doesn’t mean simmmons gets absolved if any guilt though.

Would be a mistake to go pro. He’s not good enough yet
I concur....
That Dribble of his, i grind my teeth on
That Grandma 3pt shot of his, i scream NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (when he goes to shoot it)
He has been BALLER for us, and I'd not be mad if he left, but he could be Top 3,
if he stays and polishes a mini jump shot, and that wretched Dribble of his

I'm not disagreeing with you. I just posted that his game was definitely good enough for college. I never said his heart, effort, or mental toughness was.

Having the #1 overall draft pick come from your school is never a bad thing. Ever. He did that for LSU and should be seen positively for that alone.

Obviously he still did well at college basketball, thats not the point I was making and you know that. His game is on another level in the pros compared to college, because defenses can't exploit his shooting weakness as easy as in college.

ehhhhhhh
all that really did for LSU was create the "couldnt even make the tournament with Ben Simmons" phrase becoming widely used in our games. sure for a school like Murray State developing a lotto pick with Ja Morant creates a big spring board. Simmons was known to be the number 1 pick coming into the season and we flopped despite his singular statistical success and maintaining his NBA profile. All it did for us was make our program and staff look incompetent. compound that with him saying this
quote:it did nothing for us positively other than us getting Will Wade. Which Alleva managed to screw up within 2 years
Looking at it now, I don't really know what I learned, financially, or just being a person at LSU.
