Matt Campbell has Iowa State in the Top 10.

You can't conduct a first-class head coaching search without talking to Matt Campbell.

Sorry, but that's just the truth.

Napier belongs on the list. He's done some impressive things at ULL and they gave a good account of themselves in Austin on Saturday despite Lewis having probably his worst game as a starter, but Campbell is dramatically overachieving at a Power 5 school after having dominated the MAC (which is the northern version of the Sun Belt) for years at Toledo. He's further along than Napier is.

Doesn’t he have a big buy out ?

You’d be looking at paying O his buy out, paying Matt a huge amount of money, and his buyout. That’s some serious check writing

I think Campbell is waiting on the Michigan job or the right NFL job, just my opinion

He’s certainly the hottest name available and is at the very top of every coaching search that comes open.

You absolutely try to get him, just not sure how realistic he is. Depending on what happens with the Big12, his “urgency” to take one of the big jobs offered might speed up

You will be paying huge buyouts and salaries to any coach other than Napier or Aranda. That’s just how it goes.

I hope Matt Rhule has another off year with the Panthers and is open to heading back to coaching college. Saban had 2 bad years with Dolphins and left the NFL. Rhule dramatically turned around 2 programs within 2 years.

Orgeron is going to be fired for cause. He won't have a buyout of any real significance. So that isn't a problem.

And Campbell's end of the buyout at Iowa State is only $4 million. Which Woodward would pay in his sleep.

Why not? He’s more qualified than O.

How do you feel about coach Orgeron and the team’s performance?

I thought Campbell had a bigger one after his last extension

I’d like to believe O would be fired with cause but the time for that has come and gone. You're looking at quite a legal battle there. O is more of a burn the house down guy, he’s not going to back down because you think you have dirt on him.

I'm not confirming anything, but it's obvious. They've got so much off-the-field stuff where he's concerned and there are all the personal life things - Woodward has a file on him.

If you listened to Woodward's appearance on the Jim Engster show back in April (I think it was April), he all but laid out all the grievances the athletic department had on Orgeron. It was pretty explicit and none of it had to do with football.

They might offer him a deep discount on that $21 million as a settlement, but that's about all he's going to get.

The only thing O has going for him is that there isn't a soul on that coaching staff who's even remotely qualified to be an interim coach. So unless they want to make Corey Raymond or Kevin Faulk the interim and check the diversity-hire box for football, they'll probably stick with him the whole season before Woodward makes him go away.

On the other hand, nobody ought to be surprised if there's a sex tape or some new allegation of rape that O covered up - maybe more dirt from the Peter Parrish or Ray Parker things or something. And if that pops the Monday after he goes to Lexington and gets clobbered, all bets are off.

That’s definitely a concern of mine with O. We don’t need any more scandals or drama.

Hopefully Woodward is smart about all of it and proceeds very strategically to avoid any of that potential. Which I’m sure he will be. O won’t be walking away with nothing.

Read that link. Campbell had all the leverage and negotiated his end of the buyout DOWN, not up. He's going to jump after this year, and LSU is a lot more likely to be open than Michigan will.

What's O going to do to LSU that isn't already going to happen?

So they pay him $5 million to go away rather than nothing. That's more than he's going to get anywhere else, and this is the last coaching job he's ever going to have. He could use that money.

Yea I think it’s been obvious to those of us who aren’t blindly loyal to Orgeron first and foremost that the off the field shite was a really really bad look.

I’ve said the same for months and of course there are those who scoff, but the reality is that the off the field issues fall squarely on Orgeron at the end of the day.

The only reason he hasn’t been canned yet is bc they want to give him more than enough rope to hang himself so the optics don’t impair our ability to get an elite coach in here.

The on the field performance is all Woodward has been waiting for. It’ll be done by mid November at the latest.

I think O will go quietly into the night with some type of lump sum payment.

Don’t see Campbell coming here, I don’t think he wants any part of the recruiting.

Kiffin would succeed here and We would never have to worry about qb/offense again.

Napier already knows the landscape (La and the sec) and has proven he can build a program.

Aranda has proven nothing as a head coach. And I would prefer our next coach to be an offensive mind. We need a steady hand over the offense.
