I’ve been friends with Art Cantrelle since he moved to Biloxi in high school in 1967. He is legendary on the Coast as the baddest in these parts. He is 71 or 72, and still in good shape, although he’s got hip problems. Still has a vice-grip handshake. He never was a bouncer in the casinos, but he was a bookie before the casinos came. He shrimped for a while, and works at a local seafood shop. He told me that growing up in South Lafourche, you either hooked up with a girl or got in a fight at night, cause there was nothing else to do. Extremely fast hands. Most people got knocked out without realizing it was coming! Really has mellowed over the years.
