Fickell already had Ohio state job and was fired

He was an interim HC and he wasn’t made full time HC. It was the year Pryor got suspended during the summer and Tressel resigned.

He actually kept coaching there another 5 years.

But he isn’t waiting on the OSU job that may not come open ever again.

Take 1 & 10 off the list. It’s the “John Gruden” of 10 years ago. Further, he’s a douche. We already have one of those we don’t want. Granted he’d win more games but I’d rather do so in a less douchy way

I don't understand why this board wants NFL coaches they don't like recruiting at all and any semblance of a good year they'd bounce right back to the nfl.

Kiffin failed miserably at his shots at 2 major programs

How is anyone counting 7-6 in 1 year at Tennessee a failure? He did improve the team. They were 5-7 the year before.

Mullen and Franklin are vastly overrated (have never won even a conference title)

I’m not for Dan.

But Franklin has won the Big 10. 2016.

It’s kind of amazing how sought after Kiffin is when he’s never lasted 4 years anywhere he’s been.

I think the idea is that they want detail oriented polished style coaches but you’re right they have to want to recruit. The biggest problem is there aren’t many current coaches who can run and sustain an elite program without being connected to that program. Guys like Ryan Day and Kirby have a lot of help and roots in those communities and there’s only one Saban so it’s slim pickings for what we need here. That’s why my suggestion is a little out of the box.

TOO THAT FICKELL SUPPPOSEDLY LOST THE BEST DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL AND HIS REPLACEMENT, MIKE TRESSSEL, SEEMS TO BE A GOOD FIT SO FAR THIS SEASON

Fickell is the DC. Tried telling y’all that when you were sweating Freeman

Well he is like 48. So that means USC and the Raiders when he was alike 32.

Do you want to knock him for getting the Ole Miss job 3 years into FAU?

Franklin is exactly where he wants to be, I know that for fact while he was here at Vanderbilt during interviews you can feel or hear the Penn St vibe ..I did like him as a coach at Vanderbilt. He left the program in good shape and a whole lot better than when he found it.

Franklin is damn good too.

Based on what in his career?

A Big Ten championship, 3 top-10 finishes, 2 NY6 wins, and a couple of 9-win seasons at fricking Vanderbilt.

I swear some of the posts in this thread are trolls.

He lasted 3 years at USC before he was fired. He was fired by Raiders after 2 years. All other jobs he left after 1-2 years. Just saying the man doesn’t stay places very long.

Not sure that all of our fans realize that head coaches are actually expected to coach lol. Just because a guy like Fickel has a DC doesn’t mean he doesn’t still run that defense himself. We’ve had a couple of non coaches here lately so people just assume everybody’s head coach doesn’t coach like our last two.

All before he turned 40.

At FAU for 3

And a lot of these job either he was fired (Raiders are a dumpster fire and he was 32) or were stepping stone jobs.

I cant Fault him for taking a P5 job over FAU.

I'd go after Riley since they are joining the SEC anyways.

He could do better with our defensive talent, IMO. Plus it's the right time to make the switch considering it will only get harder for OU.

I like Fickell, because he seems to have very good QB play and very good defenses.

Can't ask for much more than that.

He really seems to like where he is at though.
