Alleva thinks we have the best chance to compete in basketball

Considering Wade is already complaining about not getting promised facility upgrades, he has a funny way of showing it.

You are sooooooo wrong, I don't even know where to begin. You give Alleva too much credit for strategic thinking. I was never wild about the Orgeron hire, but you guys don't know shite about what happened in the hiring of Orgeron and te thinking behind it

but the point is we're not going to win championships while Saban is coaching Bama

While the goal is to always win championships, the real goal is to fill the stadium for each home game. Miles wasn't fired because he couldn't beat Saban, he was fired because he was losing to Ole Miss, Arky, and MSU. After Herman and Jimbo there was no clear cut top tier coach to go after.

If you look at its entire history - SEC Championships, Final Four appearances - LSU has put out some really good teams. They aren't Kentucky obviously, but they have plenty of history to speak of, including some of the best college basketball players ever to play the game.

But I understand - you have a myopic view on everything.

You really need to stop trying to defend this theory. If Alleva hadn't inherited Coach K at Duke, he would have run that program into the ground too. Duke was more than happy to be rid of him.

I get what you are trying to say from a purely on the field point of view but your theory holds zero water when the many many other factors acting on an athletic department are factored in.

You give Alleva way too much credit.

It's simple incompetence.

LSU football is a cash cow. Why would LSU run it into the ground?

so why isn't Alleva giving Wade the upgrades in certain area that were promised?

Here's my theory: Alleva is a idiot who hired a moron to be head coach of the football team

I have seen “reaches”, and I have seen extreme reaches. But I don’t know that I have ever seen a more extreme reach than this .

If even remotely true, both should be fired before noon.

1. Saban is not invincible. He's one of the best coaches of all time, but his teams have been beaten, usually by lesser teams.

2. Basketball will NEVER generate the money that a good (or even average) football team does. As bad as Alleva is, he isnt going to intentionally put a bad football product out there.

We are not even "relative" right now, whatever that means.

And there is no way, he is that blind to the culture here that he thinks just being middle of the pack in football will fly for very long.

Jesus Christ!

1. Joe Alleva had nothing to do with Duke basketball. NOTHING! By the time he arrived at Duke Coach K already had seven Final Four appearances and two national titles. The only thing Joe Alleva did basketball-wise at Duke was stay out of the way.

2. Making LSU a "basketball school" at the expense of football makes no business sense whatsoever. A school can compete at a championship level at both, simultaneously...just ask the school LSU is about to play on Saturday. That aside, football is still far and away the biggest money maker on campus and it's not even a close second. You don't essentially give up and neglect your most profitable product. Even if LSU basketball becomes a powerhouse, it STILL will not command the interest that is SEC football. Plus, even if you sell out the entire basketball season (17 games this year) that total attendance figure would still be only 1/3rd of the amount of tickets a season sellout of football would bring.

Neglecting the football program at LSU would be athletic dept. suicide. The amount of money a great football program can make DWARFS that which a great college basketball program can make. Louisville, the most profitable college basketball program in American (well....they were) only brings in about $25 million. Compare that with LSU football which rakes in $140 million. It literally would make ZERO sense to purposely neglect the football program to make, at best, an extra $10 or so million dollars off the basketball program.

It THAT is Joe Alleva's plan then he solidifies himself as the dumbest athletic director in NCAA history
