It’s going to depend on who drafts him and how much bonus money they pay out in front of his pick. He can get over slot bonus if the chips fall into place.

Itll be known based on if he gets drafted in the top 10 rounds, if he does, he’s gone.

Id venture to say he’ll def go in the top 4 rounds, and to the guy that said “theyll lowball him”…..what? You def dont know how this works

Not to hijack the thread but what about Monster coming back? He is eligible for the draft, right?

He is just a few sessions with Bob Rotella away from being elite. He’s got the stuff but just needs to get out of his own way and head sometimes. That won’t stop them from paying him while he works it out.

I do not think he is, but would think he comes back. The only true sophomore to get selected high would be Kade. Shores is technically a Junior.

Grant Taylor was taken in the 2nd round after sitting out a year due to injury. And the only year he pitched (2022), he had a 5.81 ERA in 17 appearances. The draft order isn't really determined by the stat sheet as much as you think.

He also went to Cape Cod and put up a 2.14 ERA and 30 ks in 21 IP.

He's rated 67 on the draft board right now. It won't drop only might go up if he has a good postseason

He’s certainly had his struggles. It’s Also his first season back from injury. MLB teams will certainly draft him for his upside. Look at grant Taylor. 51st overall and didn’t even pitch that season

Maybe but I doubt it. Even if you disregard his BB/9 ratio, he still gives up too my hits and earned runs and his K/9 ratio isn’t vey impressive for a pitcher with that velocity. On top of that, he’s also had the elbow issue.

If he developed an out pitch or another pitch he could throw for strikes he would be a top 5 pick next year

I agree. I’m sure he can get enough to make it worth his while to go pro this offseason, but if he came back and got his off-speed under control, got better at getting Ks, and became a Friday or Saturday SEC starter, he could get an Anderson-like bump into a first round lock projection.

It all comes down to what he wants. I wouldn’t blame him for taking what’s already on the table.

I agree. He will still have leverage after next season, and he certainly needs a lot of work before jumping to the next level.

As an earlier poster mentioned, they draft way more based upon potential vs results. Schmidt would have been a first rounder and likely still will be when he leaves.
