My game observations: Most (if not all) can be fixed.

They put Harold Perkins in no-man's land all game and he had zero impact in the game. Yes, it's great that they are trying to make him a MLB, but it's obvious he's not ready for it. Let him loose and hope that he can grow into the position later; not forcing him into it.

This has to be our worst collection of CBs in decades. If Harris can get his head straightened out, he needs to be in there.

Our WR room is too good to let guys play who drop passes. Lacy should sit and let one of the other guys play: Hilton, Sampson, Brown, etc. Dropping that 3rd down pass (which could have gone for a TD) when it was 17-17 was huge. Punt, FSU scores, INT (after a Thomas drop inside the redzone), FSU scores and it's 31-17.

Frazier should be benched and Jones should slide to RG so Heard can start getting reps at RT for the rest of the year.

I hate our passing concepts. We rarely hit a WR in stride running across the middle so he can get YACs. It's usually comeback routes, outs, WR screens, etc. If this is a limitation due to Daniels, then let Nussmeier get some reps. You saw FSU do it to us all night.

3rd down defense again from House was awful: 9/14 successful with over half of those longer than 6-7 yards.

It's the exact same mediocre garbage from last year. No evolution.

I don't see it happening with this staff. They will not think outside the box and change what they want to do on both sides of the ball.

I hate to say it but I think the coaching is expecting Perkins to play the role successfully for next years season. It's going to take at least a year for him to become better in the role. Keeping Perkins in the current role for the next few games will confirm my suspicion.

I agree that they can be fixed, but my worry is that it won't. For example, we saw the exact same shite on offense as last year after an entire offseason to develop and improve. It's hard for me to see them changing it a ton now that the season has started.

This right here was the biggest turning point. Very tough to stomach

Les Miles reincarnated with archaic concepts on offense. Perfect for a dinosaur like Denbrock and BK. People on here keep wanting Denbrock fired but you're going to find out just like with Les Miles the same problems will happens regardless who your OC is. Deal with it for the next 10 years with a guy this board incredibly overrates on X and Os just because he doesn't sound like an idiot similar to Miles. His own ex-players called him a dumbass there.

Totally agree with the OP. I do think the pass routes are designed to help JD. The coaches have a decision to make at QB. The other points should be no brainers for a competent staff.

I fully expect BK to run JD out every game this year. But a smart coach would start giving Nuss some PT when the game is still in doubt and see how the offense responds.

The problem is that Kelly isn’t going to change that. He said it already

Fixing the blocking in the return game should be a huge priority.

More of a WR limitation because this was one was in stride. But if JD is lackluster against Miss State then I need to see Nuss. I defended JD all off season but sometimes you need a change

The problem isn't that they are doing this, or that he "isn't ready for it", but they need to be more strategic about how they're going about this. During the FSU game, the interior was getting some push into the backfield at times but there wasn't a huge edge presence: this is when they should have put Perkins back out there for a series or two to get some pressure from multiple angle. They have the LBs to do it - no reason to keep him from helping turn the tide back into LSUs favor.

I think this needs to be proven at this point. Who has actually shown that they are "good" other than Malik?

I don't understand why they don't push the field at all. Even if Daniels can't get the ball there, he can draw a PI when the receiver comes back to the ball. They have got to put more pressure on the secondary and back them off.

If Perkins continues to play the MLB position like he did against FSU, he will be a non factor in every game. He guarded a 6'x 6' plot of grass for 99% of the plays. As long as the FSU QB didn't run into him, he wasn't going to make a tackle. Absolutely the most absurd use of a great skilled player I have ever seen. LSU literally played defense with 10 players and one spectator. LSU will be 7-5 at best if this continues. I would have fired our D coach, but I don't accept mediority and worse at this level. You have to be really stupid to neuter your own player as LSU did.

This is the biggest takeaway offensively. Idk why we didn't run more in-breaking routes. One of the few times we did Daniels delivered a good ball that Lacy dropped. The running backs and Mason Taylor were not utilized enough in the passing game over the middle.

I don't think that was due to Daniels limitations. The offense was terrible and hope to see different route concepts and creativity in the run game going forward.

This was more on JD than Thomas, unacceptable that the ball was underthrown and at his knees when the closest defender to him was 5-10 yards away

But, you see, they have to get Perkins ready for the position that will benefit him in the NFL, not the one that benefits LSU.

Never mind that he hasn’t even played a full season yet…

Why not both? He has two full years to develop into a LB.

I hear you, and I actually think our staff does. It just really didn’t look like it in the first game. I think they went away from the Perkins they needed—the one we saw a lot of last year, especially Arkansas—and tried to develop him.

Save the developing for games that make sense for it, like the one we’re about to play. That’s one of many things that has me shaking my head

Running lanes would open up if we played the player who knows the position and is able to make all the throws. I really hated the Les Miles sorrows through which we trudged when Cam Cameron was fielding plays, but I think Nuss' ability to get the ball in our playmaker's hands is what this team is missing! Why can't Denbrock make a decision to use someone who can not only read what defense is giving him, but also make the throws and get the ball into a player's hand so they can be a threat!
