Not as old, but I absolutely agree with everything you said. What really upsets me is the up and coming generation will never be able to understand what it meant to have athletes going out and representing their home team, for the most part.
I’m not naive enough to think dirty money hasn’t always been a part of the sport, but the pageantry, school spirit, and team mentality were all still present. Now, they have been replaced by what seems to be a collective “me first” culture.

Cool profile pic of Orgeron, dipshit. Looks like you can't handle change either.

Agree 100%. Thanks for pointing out the Truth.

This, along with the ever influential, "ok boomer" is usually what unintelligent people say when somebody says things they don't like but they aren't smart enough to come up with any useful debate on the subject. Thanks for this. You've really added to the discussion.

I'd agree, it is like NIL is making college sports like professional. And now kids are just gonna go where the money is and not where their heart wants to go.

They are reaping the benefits . . . they're getting a COLLEGE EDUCATION PAID FOR.
The enslavers also paid for food and lodging of the enslaved. That doesn’t mean the enslaved got their fair share of the wealth THEIR labor produced.
Schools make millions off of these kids. Not just the product on the field but off of their name, image and likeness. Finally the kids get something in return and y’all are pissed.
It’s not changing so deal with it.

You really zeroed in on that whole post to make this idiotic comment?

So you call him out for his cherry picking something in a post and then you jump to this stupid conclusion about what he said? Geez.

The irony of this being posted on a SEC board is hilarious. E$PN along with the SEC are literally the reason college football is dying. The money grab over the last decade has been ridiculous. Blame NIL all you want but the issue was trying to make the SEC essentially a professional conference while destroying other conferences. Taking regional rivalries and destroying them. Making a 4 team playoff just to stack it with SEC teams every year.
The circle jerk between SEC fans and ESPN is a huge issue. Nobody cares about Brian Kelley to hear him for 10 minutes during a bowl game talk about his fake accent and shitty dancing.
College football is dead because espn and SEC want to make it into something it shouldn't be, by getting as much money as they can.
College football was better when FSU, Nebraska, USC, Bama, Penn State, Ohio State, Oklahoma and unfortunately Texas were good.
When we recruited based on kids wanting to be a part of our program for reasons other than money and stacking a team like Alabama just to get a ring.
You're right, nobody cares about College football anymore. But this is substantially the fault of SEC and it's god complex

This isn’t true because people don’t cry at pro athletes leaving somewhere.

It’s exactly the same as it’s always been. Teams willing to spend money will still be on top while teams unwilling to spend money will be in the middle to bottom.
Most of you have overblown “rivalries” that really only existed among the fans while the players didn’t really give a shite (with a few exceptions).
You have been watching “pay to play” college football for well over 4 decades now. Why do you feel it’s any different now that it’s all out in the open?

I'm older than most on here (including the OP), but its time to realize that what my generation cherished is not necessarily better than what is or will follow.
And as far as the "me first" generation-- don't kid yourself--its been a me first generation since I've been alive. Our opinions are all just based on who the "me's" are at any given time. Don't blame the kids for what's being offered them. LSU has a gymnast making 1 mil for getting likes on her social media. Giving her the money is worth it to somebody. Should she give it back?
This thing (NIL and transfer portal) will work its way out. Once all involved realize that some type of guidelines need to be implemented, it will be fine. The sky is not falling and these things will not stop me from what I love--watching LSU teams (especially football) compete on a national stage. 2019 felt too damn good for that!!

Oh it's changing alright, you just aren't smart enough to see what the change will do to college football. Y'all never do until it is too late.

This is half true, and I won’t deny it. I didn’t like the expansion of the SEC, nor the commercialization that they led.
However, the SEC was the standard bearer for the kind of college football passion and pageantry that we are lamenting being lost.
Priorities got out of whack across our nation, and then the pinnacle of college football (the SEC) became the leading force for change in the wrong direction.

quote:something in return? I guess that full ride scholarship, use of billion-dollar facilities, elite coaching, tutors, nutrition, strength, massive exposure under the university's brand isn't "something"?
Finally the kids get something in return
