Konnor Pilkington tweeted, “6.8% chance??? We just used all 6.8% to win this regional!!!!!!! Next stop... Baton Rouge.”

quote:

By Tuesday morning, Andy Cannizaro had a new screenshot saved on his phone. That photo had updated odds. Yale Sport Analytics released its table of the 16 super regional teams’ chances of reaching the College World Series. The Bulldogs had the second-worst odds at 17 percent, ahead of only Davidson (7 percent).

quote:

All of that is why Pilkington appeared to his meeting with reporters on late Tuesday morning with a Mississippi State shirt on that had a bulldog with the word “CHIP” near his left shoulder. “Everybody took that to heart,” Pilkington said, “and everybody took that personally.” Not many are giving the Bulldogs much of a chance this weekend in Baton Rouge against national No. 4 seed LSU, which swept Mississippi State at Dudy Noble Field in the final series of the regular season. The Bulldogs don’t need to be reminded, either. They do enough remembering on their own, it turns out. “You have to take it personally every single day,” Pilkington said.

I think we'll be ready to play after that abysmal performance in the first game of the regionals.

Yeah it's not the draw we wanted. They have the psychological advantage of revenge after we embarrassed them on the last home weekend of their old stadium. It cost them the West and cost them a regional host.

It similar to how we wanted to play Kentucky again when we were actually hitting.

We have the home field and Omaha on the line, so we will still have our motivation. Other team definitely won't quit, we'll have to win all 9 innings.

It all boils down to which team is the first to win two games.

Doesn't matter what they have, the only way Lsu loses this series is if they hand it to them.

Extra Nacho Cheese only costs $0.50 at the Box to go along with that chip on their shoulder.

completely agree.

if we can jump out to an early lead their newly-found confidence will wane. the longer we let them hang around the more their confidence will grow

Folks living in Starkville have dearly earned any chips which may be on their shoulders.

It's a three game series to go to Omaha for a chance to play for a national championship. If you need more motivation then that then you might be playing the wrong sport. Shouldn't be any need to manufacture motivation. Seems corny and forced but hey they are Mississippi State.

Standard procedure these days. Even saban finds ways to make his team feel disrespected. I don't think it works as much in baseball though. You can get mad and swing the bat at the ball like it owes you money, but that'll probably make you less successful.

Southern Miss was a team that pitched and hit well. They just folded under the pressure of the moment of hosting and having a big brother in town. On paper, I would have been more concerned if USM were coming this weekend.

But how about our guys having the "psychological advantage" of knowing they can beat this team after having done so?

To me, it seems like the seniors and other leaders on this LSU team are focused on getting to Omaha. The only thing I worry about, after hearing some interviews, is that they may be putting too much pressure on themselves with that goal in mind. There has been a lot of "this is why we came back" and "I've been waiting to get to Omaha all my life" kind of stuff.

A big part of that "rematch" game was that LSU was also pitching a lot better than they were during the Kentucky series. There were something like 30 or more free passes to Kentucky in that series.
