If you guys think those boys should have passed on over 3 million dollars between the two then you are nuts!

i don't think anyone has said that. They should, however, be upfront with the coaching staff

Garin C was very upfront with the coaching staff but the way some things were handled by the staff after he was drafted ultimately led him to change his mind. Why is it that we change our mind everyday about things in our life and it is no big deal but when a 17 or 18 yr old player changes his mind about accepting 1.3M vs 1.8M or whatever the number the Rant suddenly goes on a witch hunt for this player.

Any coaching staff that is willing to let relations sour between one of the best baseball schools in the state over a kid taking over 1 mill is crazy and should be questioned. Dont know the Cechinni family and I dont care that they said they were coming if the bonus was less than 2 mill (or whatever the number was) the kid had a signing bonus of over 1 million that may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. You take it. PM should be able to understand that. If hes willing to sacrifice one of the best baseball schools in the state over 1 kid taking a nice size signing bonus I severely question his judgement.

Not really. This area is full of talent. SLC has been to the LLWS numerous times. Not saying he had nothing to do with it but I haven't met one kid who liked playing for him.

Speaking generally, as I don't know what happened here (and suspect it is more than the Cechinnis let on), coaches talk a bunch with these players to figure out what the expectations are. Coaches have to make the tough decision on telling kids they have to move on, telling kids there isn't enough scholarships to go around, etc. Recruiting decisions and information that is shared about how that decision is made affects people beyond the kid that is taking the million. The Raph Rhymes of the world and the Matt Gaudets of the world need their opportunity to figure out how they fit in. So yeah, a coach can be cheesed that the calculus is different than he was led to believe. The ripples affect other kids in the program and other kids who could have been offered.

If the kid got 1.4 it was obvious that he was a draft liability and PM had no possible way of knowing whether a team would fall in love with him to pay him 1.4+x to get to the number the Cechinnis told him. Im not saying that the Cechinnis arent at some sort of fault but it was obvious he was a draft liability he got paid a solid bonus and the dad is the head coach of a 5A baseball powerhouse. Get pissed off in private but dont burn the bridge like PM did. This isnt Les spouting off about a qb from indiana where we will never try to get another recruit from there again. This is a school that puts out D1 talent routinely 2 hours from Baton Rouge.

Pretty much this. His dad was the baseball coach at Barbe when I went there, he was a jerk then and he's a jerk now.

did you have a lot of interaction with him? i just find that hard to believe...i get why some of the internet nerds don't like their family, but if you've had interactions with him at barbe and have seen how much work he puts in at the field and w/ the team and still think he's a jerk i'm genuinely curious what he did to you.

this is so incredibly full of fail. one, you have to be on some serious narcotics to not give him credit for their success. two, i have a lot of friends that have played for him over the years and everybody loved him. me thinks you (and apparently your friends as well) couldn't cut it on the high school baseball squad

Didn't Bama sign their Friday night starter (I know that's not saying much) out of Zachary after CPM had a falling out w/ their program after the ZVR debacle?

Not why T. Gilbeau didn't come to LSU......besides, Nola thinks him not coming here was "grand".

I'm not saying he should burn bridges but who is the last player from Barbe that actually played at LSU? Johnny Thibodaux?

Can anybody give concrete examples of being a douchebag, why people don't like, etc. Not all good coaches are loved by their players. Many people are lazy by nature and don't want to get pushed.

Making his players act like Rock Stars when they enter a venue....

Going to a tournament at Dutchtown and told his players and parents not to buy any concessions.....we don't support other programs.

Incessant whining to umps when things aren't going his way on the field.

Encouraging arrogance in his players

I don't think it would make much difference. Most kids would still commit many months before the deadline, and the schools would still be waiting them out after the draft, then scrambling to fill their spots if they sign with MLB.
yea, I know it wouldn't do a whole lot but at least coaches would have 7 days to fill spots. Better than..."hey there goes your player!" I guess my rational is that something is better than nothing

They said if he signed for less, then they'd take away my scholarship offer. They didn't do that, but they stopped contact and didn't invite me to any games or anything. They would have pulled it

He committed to PM but after Garin signed there was no contact from the LSU staff for 8 months. I don't care if PM was upset about Garin signing a deal for less than he originally stated was the minimum (did PM ever think maybe that was a negotiation tool). Not being man enough to call Gavin and his Dad to explain his feelings (is PM a freaking girl!!!) and tell them he was rescinding the offer was pure bush league. That's the problem with LSU baseball. PM is a raging lunatic when he doesn't get his way and people are getting tired of it. Including his players. He throws them under the bus but seldom takes responsibility for failure (base running errors, lack of timely hitting, poor coaching of plate approach, etc). I have been backing Tiger baseball since the 80's, and still do but all is not well at The Box. Poll LSU players and Barbe players and I bet more like Cechini than PM. I know both but have no baseball experience with either. But I would love for my son to play for GC, but not PM.
