Seems to me he is one of the best to play 1B in a long time, based on 2/3 of one season. Don't know who taught him to step across the base all the time. I agree that is potentially dangerous and certainly awkward but he makes it look easy. As for balls in the dirt, he is Mr Hoover as far as I am concerned. Hasn't dropped but one or two all season while our other IF short hop him often.
Please rest your bias and just enjoy his ability. May end up as one of the all-time greats to play for the Tigers.

He does stretch correctly. You just think ever play at first requires him to stretch when it does not.
I've seen him coming across the bag mentioned as a negative wayyyyy too many times. This is something that an advanced 1B does. He puts himself in a position that if the throw is up the line he can come off the bag, catch the ball and make an easy tag without going across his body.
You haven't seen a first baseman at LSU do this because we haven't had a good defensive left handed player at 1B in a long time.

Uhh!! Did you watch the game last night. He had an ESPN top play from Zach Arnold. Dude did a damn near split keeping his foot on the bag to get the runner out. That's just one of his exceptional plays. There are better first basemen, I'll give you that, but I would be fine with him at first. Gtfo of here with that shite!!!

his fundamentals are terrible but he's so talented that he's good if that makes sense.
