More Meaujeaux hot takes:

DJ Welter needs to be Mike LB. He’s the QB of the defense. Kendall Beckwith should be a pass rush specialist.

Hammink is the true center. O’ Neal is obviously a defensive sub.

Morgan is a machine. a LOT is undesirable about this team, but Morgan's first baseman ship aint one of them. Not to mention he is one of few who atleast can hit a ball every now and then.

Meaujeaux, I said two months ago he should be moved to center or left and got blasted. I hear you brother. Kid plays outfield at the next level. He is really good, but should be in the outfield.

How many runs does he save per game in the OF vs 1B? The kid makes some plays with his glove at 1B that bail out the infielders a few times a game

Have to agree here. I use him as an example of how not to play first base. He’s such a freak athlete, he gets away with it.

First basemen should make it look easy and smooth.

He may not be the proto type first baseman, but he is the best in the PM/LSU era. Who on the team is better?

There is a lot wrong with this team, but Morgan is 100% not part of it. Great on offense and defense. Stupid thread.

He’s probably the best defensive 1st baseman in the SEC......

There’s a reason no analyst, coach, or other fan that knows baseball agrees with you.......
Because you’re wrong

Yea I'm pretty much baseball illiterate but I'm a long time LSU Baseball season ticket holder.
I have been wondering if Morgan may be the best 1b we've ever had(no disrespect to Eddy at all) if he continues on this trajectory of stellar defense and consistent offense.
In my observations this season, his athleticism has turned a throwing error into an out in almost every game.
Some games as many as 3 times.

Some are just trying to put forward some truth against the conventional wisdom that he is the apex first baseman. He is a stellar athlete with a great glove, but he needs to be coached up better if he is to excel at the position.

Exactly!! He’s made Way more plays with athleticism than he’s made mistakes with awkward technique. He’s just not a “smooth” player to the eye, his ABs are same way to me, but he freaking gets it done. Kid may be an All American before he leaves LSU

Pretty dang good for someone who “is not a first baseman”

How many errors this season has he had that got logged as throwing errors?

I’ll hang up and listen.

Doesn’t stretch properly

Comes across the bag into foul terminal wayyyy too many plays

I think he's a fine first baseman, but I happen to agree with these two statements. I've noticed it all year. He makes some rather routine throws look hard by inexplicably crossing over the bag and almost getting run over, on throws that are just marginally off line. I have always assumed that this is part of his "flair". I say whatever, as long as he doesn't get himself hurt. If he does, he's got himself to blame. And, yeah, he doesn't really stretch properly, as he often gets in an awkward position that prevents him from extending fully. And it's his footwork that everyone says is so magical. So that's kind of odd.

But he does make a lot of great picks on both thrown and batted balls that have saved us on numerous occasions. So, he's definitely a very good first baseman, who happens to have a couple of things to work on.

Great idea let’s bitch about one of the only bright spots on the team.

He has saved a number of bases with his fielding. Offensively he obviously needs to be in the line up- hopefully you can even figure that one out.

And Cruz has misplayed several balls in the OF that he could have caught or put himself in a better throwing position.
Every player has things to work on especially these freshman. So let them work and improve instead of instantly stating why they should or shouldn’t be playing a position.

I agree that he likely won’t project at first because of his athleticism and what MLB first basemen are expected to do (blasts HRs, etc). Andres Galarraga was an exceptional first baseman that could do it all and was huge.

Guess the next thing you are gonna say is Marceaux shouldn’t be a pitcher because he gives up hits!
