Who won silver and how close were they

American from Mississippi. It wasn’t close. He got to a height and couldn’t go higher. Mondo kept vaulting.

Greatest SWEDISH athlete of all time

Damn, Sergey Bubka set the record 17 times over 10 years for a total of 12". His last was held for nearly 20 years.
Mondo is at 9 records for 3.5" in 4.5 years.

Mondo gets paid every time he sets a record. There is no reason for him to push the distance every. He just needs to break it by the min height every time to keep getting paid.

It really did sound like Death Valley. The video was great!

Did y’all know Mondo lived partially in Sweden growing up. These freaking people I swear. Maybe he visited his grandparents there. The dude literally knew little to no Swedish before moving there.
“I hate that we lost him to Sweden, I wish we could get him back to American one of these days,” Kendricks says, half-jokingly, about Duplantis, who grew partially in Louisiana and part-time in Sweden, as a dual citizen.“

What was the story as to why he wasn't on the US team?
I heard something about his mother being Swedish and representing them in a previous olympics. But why represent Sweden when you were mostly raised in the US.
Feels like there is more to the story that I don't know. Super proud of the LSU Tiger and American....just a little confused about how this happened.

It's easy to understand: the USOC's rules makes it harder/ risker for all U.S. athletes to qualify for the Olympics. ALL the American athletes, male & female, all events, hate those rules. An athlete can have great training sessions, over the pre Olympic yrs, one "off" day while trying to qualify & it's one & done for that athlete . Has to wait another 4 years. Too, very few have financial support while training all those yrs. Mondo spent 14 yrs training & prepping for the Olympics, went to LSU....and competed....for his freshman yr, to be on campus with his brother. His parents were both athletes at LSU as well.

And watch the replay. A U.S. vaulter is standing on the runway, openly cheering for Mono.

I was listening to a radio news story about Mondo today. They mentioned that he gets a pile of cash each time he breaks the record, so when breaking his own record, it behooves him to move it up a small amount so that he will have the opportunity to break it again and get paid each time at the future competitions.

That US vaulter, Sam Kendrick was the one that made the comment and the same person that beat Mondo in college for the national championship. A lot of people assume Mondo won the NCAA title but he didn’t.
If Mondo wasnt vaulting right now, Kendrick would be yhe number 1 vaulter in the world.
It is timing I suppose.
