It makes sense for Sweden to make that concession, it doesn’t for America. It isn’t reasonable for us to do that for someone who will bring in one gold medal an Olympics
It’s ok to say America didn’t do anything wrong and neither did mondo. Doesn’t have to be a bad guy

entitled? He earned the title as the greatest in is sport of all time and will become of the greatest olympian in terms of accomplishments he EARNED.
He demanded a spot without trying out BEFORE winning anything in the Olympics.
That’s what everyone would consider entitled if he weren’t a tiger

Sir did you just watch the special on NBC he jumps for Sweden because Sweden unlike the United States would allow his dad and mom to continue to be his coach and trainer the USA would not do that they had their own coaches so I can't blame him at all and besides he is an LSU tiger and I will support 100% but if I was to be able to be coached by my mom and dad I would do the same

The USA would absolutely let his parents still coach him. They just weren’t going to make his dad a USA national coach on the payroll.

A lot of different countries athletes get the benefit of training in the US.
Yes. That’s what I’m saying. I’m not cheering for them either.
Most of them would not be anything without going to college, training and living here.

And...?
Mondo wouldn't be a pole vaulter if not for his athletic Swedish mother.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

What I would be interested in seeing is a venn diagram of the people posters on this board that hate him and the posters on this board that celebrated the Jan. 6 Capital riots. You know there is some overlap there and would be interested to hear the mental gymnastics on why Mondo repping Sweden is bad but vandalizing the US Capital is ok.

Except, no.
I'm actually interested in how politics are woven into sports at every turn by both sides, even though both sides swear it isn't. It's a great case study.
Consider this thread. The Mondo hate by many on this board is 100% political

You think the world’s greatest pole vaulter ever is scared of competition?

Doesn’t mean he is scared, but it absolutely is a part of it
quote:
Duplantis acknowledged that he had a practical reason for aligning with Sweden. By doing so, he does not have to qualify for the world championships or for the Olympics by finishing in the top three at a trials competition, as he would if he were representing the United States. One bad day on the runway could have been enough to keep him off the team.
“I think I would be lying if I said in the beginning that it wasn’t a factor,” he said.

This is a bad look for you, pridey

What is?
All I did was directly list what mondo in fact said.
Part of the reason in choosing Sweden was the ease of qualification

You played at American university with international athletes I’m sure they would love your takes here
Posted on 8/5/24 at 8:50 pm to Lester Earl
My take here is mondo isn’t a bad guy for choosing Sweden. Why would my international teammates care about that?you think they would be agreeing with those talking bad about him for not choosing America?
And
I directly messaged my Swedish teammate regarding how popular Mondo actually is in Sweden
His response was pretty good
"In Sweden, we don't care about any bought-in Swede who jumps a stick on a mattress. To say that Mondo is more popular than Zlatan who dominated a world sport is brain dead. Even Truls Möregårdh will be more popular than Mondo after the Olympics."
I think he might have been a little on the sauce plus maybe the current immigration issues bled over to that
