You sure about that? Look at the NFL. Most teams have gotten worse at tackling, and football in general, and these guys are professionals.

It's just a theory and just my opinion but not repeatedly doing something correctly (i.e. practice) leads to the individual at being worse at something.

Woes this team has this year is NOT due to something O hasn't done or Les did do

Actually, all of the woes are the direct result of piss poor recruiting by coach O's predecessor and the object of your gay love Les Miles. It certainly isn't because of this coaching staff, as this is the best coaching staff LSU has ever had.

It must be the coaches. They forgot how to coach tackling. Blame it on them never expect the players to do in a game what they do in practice. All kidding aside it seemed better on Saturday so I think it has more to do with effort than lack of technique.

Everyone is trying to reach in to strip the ball instead of tackling the player

I have noticed a fair bit of this but I don't remember seeing a broken tackle because of a strip fail, only just a few extra yards gained since it wasn't a solid hit.

Nothing was more infuriating than the Pelini years when LSU defenders would fling their bodies into the opponent and bounce off as the opponent rushed down field

Greedy Williams is doing just fine in his place.

Delpit will be good, he's had some freshman mistakes, but for the most part, he knows how to tackle. Not worried about him.

Devin White is good.

This is a problem

You left out Duke Riley, which is the main problem b/c Alexander is not good at all.
and our senior Safety who played last year is sucking it up as well.

Lack of depth due to injuries and suspensions leads to fatigue. Fatigue makes you a half step slower and poor technique.

Throw in a sprinkle of youthful inexperience to be in the proper position to deliver the hit, rather than showing up late and grasping with arm tackles, and you will see the causes.

Aranda did not get bad at coaching during the offseason.

I read an article a couple of years back (or saw a video, can't remember which) where Pete Carrol is a big proponent of rugby style tackling, where you learn where to position your head, wrap up, and roll the player to the ground. I would have hoped that coach O would bring that here. Our tackling is atrocious.

Here it is.

Oh shut the frick up Derek. Your boy has been the recruiting coordinator since 2015. Only two freshmen started on defense on Saturday. No excuses.

The vast majority of our missed tackles are from the secondary.

It's called your All-American safety and DB went to the NFL last year and you replaced them with true freshmen.

We go through this every few years. The younger players in the secondary have trouble wrapping up. They will get better.

You don't need to have "experience" to know to wrap up. That's a fundamental aspect of playing defense you learn (or should learn) FAR before you get to college.

Jackson is a Jr. While he is more than willing to come in make a tackle (something not all CB's will do), he is all shoulder when he does. That's not an experience issue. Contrast that with the other corner, who is a RS Freshman, who generally does a good job of wrapping up.

The issue with the Safeties his their desire to make a huge hit vs. just getting a guy to the ground (this isn't just an LSU problem). Coming in an diving at people isn't going to work.

On the LB side White is continuing to become a great player. Alexander just isn't. Maybe it's because he's small. But he's struggling. The one guy I would say "youth" is a problem is Chaisson. Through no fault of his own he was completely "oversold" by the coaching staff. He's a young, raw, player just trying to find his way. Physically he's ok, but I think the game at the college level is overwhelming him. Thus, unless he is unblocked, he's struggling.

Being a good tackling team is a mindset. It's something that is preached and focused on every day, not just on Saturdays.

At least not since 2001.

2013 had a pretty soft defense. Rewatched our game against Georgia in 2013 recently... offense was a fine tuned machine but the defense couldn't stop to save their lives.

The fact that two of our best defensive players returned back to play against Florida also had a lot to do with it.

I know we were hyper critical of Miles' super long and physical practices, but maybe they were necessary during the summer. I agree we don't need them mid season but maybe they got the team prepared to tackle and play physically
Practices in the spring summer are supposed to be brutal. I don't think we backed off those. Only the in-season practices.

Having seen the physicality of this team, maybe they did back off those however. I tend to think it's due to coaches not properly 'motivating' players to participate in player-led drills and S&C time.
