Look here guys you just made my point my "football IQ" is pretty damn good. I've played and been watching for over 30 some odd years. Les thinks he can win any mismatch with the talent he has. And for the at least 8 teams on the schedule any giving year he is correct. But for teams with equal talent you have to be able to create mismatches. And I'm not talking about going to the spread bull shite I can't stand it. What I am talking about is running a pro set multipile formation offense against teams that are daring us to throw. That is what we were told we would see. Does it require execution yes does it require field position yes, but when you are beyond the twenty with multiple 3rd and more than two yards throw the ball. Come out in something other than I formation and create doubt in the defense.

Me too, if that motherfricker, Les, wins the next four games like he won the last four I'm done!

Think about this. LSU threw on first down a bunch. They called pass plays about 30 times. As they approached the end of the game Les went conservative. And hell, maybe that's why we're not reading headlines saying "Mett throws away LSU's championship hopes."
You say we need to create mismatches? Spencer Ware on that throwback wasn't a mismatch? We tricked them; ware stiff armed that LBer; and 33 yards later he sent that DB to the locker room!

Kept his cool in a crazy arse stadium environment for his first SEC road game.
We've got a gamer at QB for the first time since Matt Flynn.
He'll be more prepared for Florida now and other teams that can beat us if we're not on our A game.

OL is huge!!!The entire team suffers mightily if they can't block worth a crap. It will cost us and in more than one game I'm here to tell ya.

Our whole offense is a mismatch for 99% of the defenses we play because of how CLM has built his team
I disagree! Maybe win 99% of out of conference teams, but definitely not in the SEC. I am with a lot of folks in the rant who think the sky is NOT falling. Auburn always plays LSU tough especially in their house. There is a lot of time to improve. I do express similar feeling with TigerFanNKaty. We have a great run game and we use it well. However, we constantly try to use the run to set up the pass and never change game plans. I love Les to death, but I would love to see us use the skills we have and open a game with a drive where we do nothing but pass every play. Image what kind of offense LSU would have if we used the pass to set up the run instead of the run to TRY to set up the pass...unstoppable. Furthermore, not a coach in the country would expect it. I hate to use the damn gumps as an example, but in the NC almost every drive the gumps came out passing on 1st and 2nd down and totally caught us off guard. We were preparing for TR and they didn't go to that. I believe we need to implement a similar approach. Also, more plays like the OBJ touchdown against West Virginia. We could have gotten Auburn many times with a call like this on 3rd and short rather then trying to pound for 2 or 3 yards. Auburn was playing run. A PA would have been a great call. I am a believer in what Les is doing and has done at LSU, but I do not want a repeat of years passed where run is not working and we dont have a consistant pass attack to go to. I would love to see us come out throwing down field for the first drive our two and then when the D finally backs off we using our barn of nasty backs to run all over them. But, I love the fact that we won in Auburn. No matter what kind of season they are having that is not a gimme. We played like shite and are still in the title race. Let's hope we improve going forward.

Yours is a good post but I have a slightly different point of view on some things.
The point you made about what Bama did in NCG is not only accurate, IMO it is a very underrated component of why they won the game.
But what exactly made their strategy so effective? It was because...they hadn't done it all year! They played offense just like us in all their other games, including the first match at BDS! Because they weren't able to out "talent" LSU, they changed their strategy for the NCG out of NECESSITY! But for every other team on their schedule, much like LSU's, a "run first" philosophy was more than enough.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is, like you, I would like to see more and better passing on early downs...but I can see how CLM would be reluctant to change a proven winning formula.

I don't think the sky is falling, but we have to realistic. This team is not last years the obivious is we are missing two big play makers. Also this year two of Miles/Stud offense, I know everyone thinks it is no different from what Miles ran with Crowton but it is. Team have had a whole year of film study and they haven't changed shite yet. Maybe we just are not has good as last year but we will soon find out. I think we are as talented but Miles and company need to stop being so damned predictable. It pisses me off when the media blow hards start talking shite. But guess what from what they see who can blame.

I couldn't agree more lsuexpert. If it ain't broken don't fix it. We were also have success running on early downs against Auburn. My problem was the 3rd and short situations. Auburn was packing 8 or 9 in the box and we still ran it right at them. I think that is where we check out of run and go a short pass or a play action. I think we can burn a lot of teams putting OBJ or Landry 1 on 1.
TigerNkaty I think we are just as good and have the big play threats but I do agree we have become predictable. That is what my main feeling is from above.

Exactly Oz, I'm not saying scrap the whole thing and start over, but for love of christ throw on 3 and 3. Come out with more than 2 or 3 reciever sets and make them defend it. It's simple math.

Agreed, I miss the days of JaMarcus or Flynn where we had 4 or 5 WR's. We have a great stable of RB and even though we have drops there isn't a team in the country with 4 or 5 corners who can cover OBJ, Landry, Wright, and Shepard all out there. I love how powerful our run game is but I don't like how reliable we have become. It was Mett's first SEC game and we might see him become JaMarcus and Flynn, but I don't want to see more NCG or first half UGA SEC championship games where the run isn't working and we go, "Oh shite what now?"

Well, I'm not certain that anyone honest and objective could disagree with the following conclusions: (1) Pass protection atrocious; (2) WR's dropped balls and didn't consistently separate; (3) Run blocking erratic; (4) Critical turnovers; (5) Playcalling rote and questionable, especially where we repeatedly ran directly into nine man fronts; (6) Defense incredible, save for one or two missed coverages (thank God Frazier overthrew McCalleb); (7) We beat a 1-2 18 point underdog by a measely safety. Not a great night. Sloppy. Thankfully, we won, so it's all immaterial as long as we improve.
Solution:Replace Stud the Dud and Ensminger. The O-line misses Ben Wilkerson.

I'm happy with our quarterback, and i would never want to watch last years qbs again. In saying that, and as bad as it sounds We would have had an easier time last Saturday with JJ at qb. Mett has absolutely 0 escapability. None.

LSU's style of offense forces defenses like Auburn to commit 8 or 9 men to the box and also to take chances with blitzes to have any chance of stopping us. This makes play calling very simple. Our main problem so far this year has not been the plays that are called, rather with the execution of those plays.
This is a little bit of a stretch, more like 5-7, but you certainly make a good point. I think the o-line needs to pick it up a little, Mett needs to make quicker decisions, and the WRs need to start hauling in some more catches. It's quite disappointing knowing how talented they all are, but they just are killing too many drives...

I had to just to get it out of my head. Believe me it didn't come easy.

After watching the game for the second time, aside from the 2 fumbles, we played a very good game. We out played them. That defense is good and getting better each week. First SEC game for a lot of the players, in a hostel stadium, and they prevailed. Its hard to win in Auburn, but those young men won't except anything less. 14-0
