Trade a Florida International and North Texas for two SEC opponents and the rankings may be identical.

Take away 175 yards passing against UNC on two plays that were blown coverages and freshmen out of position when we had a 20 point lead and LSU is giving up 211.5 ypg on defense.

Unreal.

I'm definitely frustrated with the passing game, but it's hard to argue with the formula....

Great defense, great special teams, solid running game ... this formula has won a lot of different football teams at every level of play a lot of games.

Watching Bama last year was like watching a Python kill its prey, slow, methodical, predictable. They simply waited for the opponent to make mistakes. If the other team didn't make mistakes, they won with field position and a battering ram.

LSU can do the same this year, but they need to eliminate the mistakes. The games have only been close because LSU has allowed the opponent to hang in there. 4th qtr (and red-zone) turnovers are thwarting this team's kill-shots.

The difference is Alabama 2009 could pass when it needed to, and could set up the pass with the run. LSU 2010-not so much.

Sorry but we do not have a Heisman trophy winner at RB nor do we have a backup RB just as good.

We are running Ridley, a freshman and ??
Pretty much average/slightly above average SEC RBs so far.

And I have seen NOTHING in JJ that leads anyone to believe that he can lead us to an undefeated season. He lacks the field presence and leadership of McElroy.

I think he was trying to say the defense is better overall, if just two plays from the opener are ignored. I hope I'm not putting words in his mouth...

Ummm...Bama didn't have a Heisman Trophy-winning back last year either. Plus, his backup was a Freshman (Richardson). Your remark is based entirely off the HYPE you've been listening to on TV. If Ridley starts putting up awesome numbers against top-notch competition, you might see him get some Ingram-type hype.

Wow. Reading comprehension is a good thing.

LSU fans are so quick to boo these days.

I was saying that we are even better than the stats indicate if you consider that almost 20% of the yardage given up by our defense was on 2 plays in the first game when we were ahead and had either blown coverages or freshmen in the game who were confused.

Those problems have been corrected.

It was a complement. Wow.

He would have to fire himself and hire Saban to do that.

Ingram did not win the Heisman last year?

While our D is ridiculous, I think Bama ended up near the top of every single defensive category. Not saying LSU cant do that though, just tough considering the remaining schedule.

I think the key obviously is if the running game can sustain success as the passing game diminishes. Bama could line up and run at will last year, which allowed them to completely hide McElroy when necessary. We have a nice run game, but I'm not sure it can be dominant like Ingram and co. last year. So while we don't need Jefferson to put up Mike Leach numbers to win, I think we do need at least a semi-viable threat to make it all work.

What he is saying is ... through four games of the 2009 season, Alabama did not have a Hesisman-winner as its RB.

Technically, through 12 games they did not have a Heisman winner as their RB.

Completely agree. There is absolutely no reason we couldn't use this formula to win in the SEC. The talent is definitely there; will the staff capitalize on it?

Saban is a def genius and mcelroy did win quite a few games for bama last year. With saban being a great deff coach how can anyone think we will run up and down the field on them? Its like some tiger fans live in la la land.We had better get Lee in the game if we want a chance to win the big ones this year. Playing JJ is like someone standing in the middle of the highway with a bus coming and not trying to help get him off the highway.

You are overrating McElroy's performance from last year big time.
