and he turned it down. Decently interesting

quote:

Remember when Steve Ensminger suggested during his introductory news conference that he'd been offered the #LSU OC job in the past?

Les Miles told @MattMoscona just now that he offered him the opportunity to replace Gary Crowton after 2010.

Ensminger turned it down.

Not offered. Asked Ensminger if he was interested in interviewing for the OC job. He said no.

I meant as a hire.

Was he now? Tell me a little about his offenses while serving as the OC at LSU. How successful were they?

Well, Kragthorpe was supposed to be the OC, but he was diagnosed with cancer, and decided to step back and just become the QB coach.

ETA: Parkenson's, not cancer.

I thin SE knew the limitations that would be placed on him and the style of game Miles wanted.....specially him having been a QB

The only reason you think that is because he's the OC on your favorite college team. If Steve E were hired by any other SEC team as OC you would have laughed.

He turned Miles down because he knew Les would interfere. Coach O will give him and the other offensive coaches more freedom. No brainer. Steve will do a good job.

Parkinson's disease is not cancer.

He has some semi-successful experience as OC and QB coach.
The hire of his boss has all of FBS rofl.

I don’t even disagree. I think he’ll be just fine. I also think we could have done better.

I respect SE a lot for being content in his role the past eight years. It takes a big man with a clear mind and strong character to know his limitations and be content with the best position suited to him. Not just always looking to the next step up. And to be able to put the team before their pride and ambition.

If only our current HC had the self awareness that SE did, SE wouldn’t have found himself in the unenviable position of potentially drowning to let an in over his head head coach stand on his shoulders to keep his head above water.

This is a stretch. Yeah he did a solid job in 2016 as a stop-gap but his tenures at A&M and Clemson 20+ years ago couldn't exactly be described as successful

Yeah it was a pretty shaky tenure.

Not surprising that was the context.

I also would bet this was after Kragthorpe had to step aside late in spring and Miles was deciding between E and Stud to basically fill in late in the game.

My guess is SE, Stud, and Miles all played a fair part along with Krag in designing the offense that took us to the 13-0 SEC Chsmpionship.
