I like Detillier, but 85 percent of his comments are reflections of opinions already made. He doesn’t give any fresh takes and his comments in this piece could have been made by any educated football fan.
Even if statements are not new, there is something to be said for confirmation from more dependable sources like MD.

He mentioned a record number of drops too, it’s not all on the QB.

The game plan answer was in response mainly to Berry who averaged 7 yards per carry vs A&M in the first half, getting 1 carry in the 2nd half
This keeps getting cited, but the reality is the huge point swing by A&M.

I remember Detillier would come on Mascona's show once a week and it always made me chuckle that Matt would ask one question and Detillier would go on for 10 minutes straight.....every time.
He seemed to be very hit or miss on his pre-game Saints takes once the game was over you of course could look back and judge.
He was I think and still is a buddy of O's so his takes on LSU during that tenure were shaded accordingly.
I tend to agree with most of his points posted here though.

I was trying to go a little easy on the guy!

Watch #31 Bailey, Texas Tech DE. This is the type of DE LSU needs to get back to. This man absolutely wrecks shite.
Totally agree. That DE #9 for A&M is the same way. I liked it better when we recruited these type of players. It’s one thing to be athletic, but it’s another thing when they are athletic and mean.

Good recap and thanks
Kelly had the strongest portal class in the country. OL was considered a question mark but the talent was there.
Kelly didn’t get it done and it didn’t look like he would get it done.
Additionally. I agree 10,000% that Kelly didn’t fit in.
Otherwise, he came in as one of the best coaches in the country and we were considered fortunate to be able to get him.
Sometimes things don’t work out. Football stands out moreso than other sports for obvious reasons. Things fail for multitude of reasons. Second guessing becomes the sport of the day.

Remember when Dittilier used to sell his NFL draft grade book for hundreds of players he never saw play?
I remember.
I remember.

The game plans have been odd
From the start of the season Nussmeier looked like Drew Brees in his last season, no long ball. It's like every week the offensive game plan is to scheme around Nussmeier's injury. And just like with Brees, defenses have keyed on this.
It's like people forget that Nussmeier is capable of a 4,000 yard, 30 TD season. Clearly something has been wrong with him. Poor kid should have gone pro last year.

Disagree with Kelly's media excuse on that one...and yours too. So what if A&M took a 10 point in the 2nd half. I believe there was MORE than half of the 3rd quarter left and all of the 4th quarter. You are only two scores and you abandon a guy averaging 7 ypc. Oh, and BTW, when you run the ball and eat up clock, you rest your defense also. Kelly's answer was a FAIL about time being an issue.

Yeah, you know last season I used to curse Nussmeier for all his long balls because 75% of them were OVERthrows. Now, they are UNDERthrows which was the first sign to me his arm wasn't right. Good analogy on the Brees comparison BTW.

Actually the main reason I posted it
1) Many here think Van Buren should start. He said Nussmeier to quote him is still "the guy"
2) People dump on the OL which is right but many here think that LSU has a good DL...I don't. I think it is bottom half of the SEC. QBs sit back there ordering extra mustard on their hot dogs scanning the field and IF the pass rush ever materializes, they take off and run right down the middle of the field because the DL rush is "not balanced or in their lanes". I think these people need to compare LSU's DL with others in the SEC...it is NOT that good.
BTW, a couple of posters mentioned specific DL as negatives. McKinley has played like a high 3*, NOT a 5*. And remember when Gooden "was unblockable in practice". Well, other teams don't have that problem. Wait, did Travante Valentine change his name and get extra eligibility?

You can add 2018 to this. Remember the 29-0 beat down Bama gave us in Tiger Stadium?
They were better than us that year, but not that much better.

LSU couldn’t replace Swinson’s sack #’s with 3 portal DE’s.
