I talked to Marlon Favorite last Monday and he said he thought Pelini should get the call. Marlon played for Pelini and praised him for his schemes, strategy and ability to find mismatches to take advantage of. He said he talked to his players daily about work ethic, attention to detail, life issues, life after football and doing things the right way.

That’s Bo’s biggest strength. He’s a teacher and a real good one. Bo is rep-oriented, that I can tell you. He reps you about the little details defensively in different sets so that in a game it comes to you as second-nature. Being prepared and not guessing. It’s about knowing.

Pelini will work well with the assistants. Even Nicholls State head coach Tim Rebowe, who joined us for a segment this Monday, who is a defensive oriented coach, said “Bo Pelini is a defensive genius and now he’s got that big-time LSU talent to work with.

I’m pretty excited.

I don’t know A lot about his defensive scheme but I am interested in seeing how he fits players if we switch to a 4-3.

I remember DTs in the 300-315 range and DE in the 250-290 range. Seems to have been like that at Nebraska.

We have some BOLB that are going to have to bulk up. Idk what he’s gonna de with all our NTs.

Long term I have a lot of confidence in him, I am Interested in how the transition will go.

Coach O makes sure he is stretched, per ESPN interview.

Talked a little about Nebraska in the interview. Kind of a precursor to the Nichols State coach's comment.

"The teacher in Pelini will adjust to the players he has and adapt to their strengths. There is a difference talent-wise in coaching defensive players at Nebraska and Youngstown State and now LSU.

From 2008-2019, Nebraska produced 18 defensive NFL draft choices. From 2008-2019, LSU produced 42 defensive draft choices. It’s a player-driven program. Orgeron has said that over and over again."

Didn't mention players but did say this:

"Orgeron and Pelini are about getting up the field and getting after the QB, but LSU has loaded up on defensive linemen and so you go with more four-man fronts.

As for whether Pelini’s defense will work against today’s spread offenses, the key in defending the spread is influencing the quarterback and getting him out of his comfort zone. Pressure breaks the football pipe. Look at the National Championship game. Aranda....."

My guess is he’ll wait a year or two before implementing any major philosophical changes.

Need to utilize our best DL players while they’re here and recruit guys who are better suited for a 4-man front, hence why I don’t anticipate anything major or drastic philosophically next season.

I like the hire a lot. I honestly think it was the best hire possible.

I'm extremely excited that Pelini is coming back to be the DC. As his aggressive and always attacking style defenses were super fun as a fan to watch. Not to mention that they were also always really, really very good.

Indeed, I believe the future is very bright for LSU.

Here's my guess of how the defensive line players will be reclassified under Pelini.

Strong side defensive ends: Jordan Burch (only if he signs), Justin Thomas, Jarell Cherry, TK McClendon, Soni Fonua, and Ali Gaye.

Defensive tackles: Tyler Shelvin, Glen Logan, Apu Ika, Neal Farrell, Jacobian Guillory, Jaquelin Roy, Joseph Evans, Nelson Jenkins, Eric Taylor, and McKinley Jackson (only if he signs, which is a mighty big if)

Weak side defensive ends: Andre Anthony, Ray thorton, Travez Moore, Ray Parker, Phillip Webb, BJ Ojulari, and Desmond Little.

I've always preferred DTs like Brockers, Benny Logan and Dorsey rather than the bulky NT types. Those kind of guys are a constant headache for OL coaches.

Darry Beckwith reiterated this on Moscona's show. He said the way Pelini installs a defense has Darry remembering certain calls 13 years later.

and it would be the same thing said over and over like it was a brand new thought! The guy repeats himself to the point where he is just capturing air time.

I was going to post this, a good read for those questioning the hire and whether Bo will fit in.

Which brings up some other things else Mike D said in the interview which is 100% correct:

"Listen, there will always be people who question a hire. “You should have hired this guy or the next guy,” they’ll say, but they have never been in the game at that level to hire anyone."

AND:

"And there are some still lurking in the weeds who no matter who Coach O hires they are against it. There are a lot of people hitting the delete button on comments they made early on about the hiring of Coach O, Joe Brady, Greg McMahon, Bill Johnson and even offensive line coach James Cregg. There will always be those critics. They are waiting for him to lose a game or two to question his hire even after a National Championship because they don’t want to admit they were wrong"

I think it's funny he is calling out the cockroaches in the woodwork and the snakes in the grass. Kind of like when Derek Ponamsky BITCH-slapped the crap out of the haters a couple weeks ago. Both have been hilarious.
