What could have been. Tito Horford, father of Al Horford, was registered to play at LSU, even had his picture taken with the team at the beginning of the 1985-1986 season. I'd never seen him play until finding this game. He started for the West, no. 34. He was a 7'0" athletic center. He came out fast scoring on a jumper, getting an offensive rebound/dunk. We went to the final four that year with 6'6" Ricky Blanton as center. Even with Nikita Wilson ineligible and Zoran Jovanovich injured we would have had a starting lineup of:

Taylor - 6'0" PG
A Wilson - 6'4" SG
D Redden - 6'6" SF
J Williams - 6'8" PF
T Horford - 7'0" C

We would have had Blanton, O Brown, B Woodside, and J Vargas coming off the bench. We may have taken it all that year.

Already, the University of Houston has been punished for violating two NCAA rules in recruiting Horford. Now the storm has moved to Baton Rouge, La. According to a source familiar with the investigation, Baltazar and her son Tony told the NCAA that Eduardo Gomez, a friend of LSU Coach Dale Brown, offered their family an unspecified amount of beef, food, medicine and money if Tito signed with the Tigers. Gomez, a former Dominican basketball star, was Horford's first coach.

Wow Daddy Dale getting creative....

He was AT LSU .. If this would have happened, there would not have been any controversy naming the court after Daddy Dale.

What if Dale got LSU put on probation over some beef?

Nikita Wilson was an academic casualty. Best turnaround jumper in school history.

It befuddles me as to how much better the basketball uniforms looked for LSU in the 1980s as compared to the bland uniforms we wear now.

It only says the coach offered the family the beef and other goods. I would guess Dale offered the coach actual money to get him to Baton Rouge.

I don't think many ppl appreciated how good Derrick Taylor was. He was so crazy hyped out of HS I think some viewed him as a underachiever, but was the glue on them teams.

It truly befuddles me how much Pro / Semi-pro talent has graced the PMAC - and LSU has never even been to a Final….let alone won one

Once we get AND KEEP the right coach in BR, we will have big time success. We've never had a talent problem (with the exception of this year and during Trent's error). LSU is as big of a sleeping giant as there is in the college basketball world. Louisville also.

Second to Chris Jackson as best PG in LSU history.
