Maybe it's just me but this 2:30 bama game is starting to feel like 2003 UGA

Here's hoping this season ends the same way!

That TD pass from Mauck to Green - amazing!

It's just you.

I don't see any obvious parallels other than the kickoff time. In 2003 LSU was still "up and coming". Yes, LSU had won the SECCG in 2001, but it fell back down to just above average in 2002.

Georgia was the defending SEC champ. What made the game big was it was a top 10 matchup (or close to it) in the "big game" national spot. That had not happened very often over the prior 10+ years.

Fast forward to today and LSU has become one of the power programs in the nation with high expectations to go along with it. This isn't an "up and coming" team with low expectations. Alabama on the other hand is trending downward from its status under Saban.

It is a big game. But it is not some watershed moment. That's mostly because of LSU's great success since September of 2003

I didn't get to go to that game bc I was grounded for the first and only time in my life for grades. Went to a lot of other games that year and others but man I always regret missing that one.

it. This isn't an "up and coming" team with low expectations.

This is incorrect on 2 counts:

First, we were not an “out of nowhere team” in 03. We won the SEC in 01. Even in year 4, Saban had already established the minimum expectation that we should compete for titles

Second, we are closer to an “up and coming” team now than we have been at any point in the last 25 years. We have been nationally irrelevant for half a decade. Yes the brand carries weight because of past successes which perhaps it didn’t fully have in 03, but let’s not pretend that we haven’t been a middle of the pack SEC program over the last six years which is finally on the ascendency

Agree with OP that the 03 vibes are strong

The 2018 day game in Tiger Stadium that we won 35-16 was great too & UGA was ranked #2

It was the only conference and power 5 non conference home game that I've missed being in Tiger Stadium in the past 30 years. I actually watched the game at a LSU party across the street from Fenway Park before the Astros vs Red Sox playoff game.
