Hmm… I wonder what all the guys who said he wouldn’t be entering the portal think about this.

I’m good with nearly the entire team entering the portal

Wish him the best. Some kids just aren’t cut out for the pressure here. Everyone looks at him and asks why can’t he just repeat what Shores did.

I believe he is draft eligible

Sucks because it liked Mavrick but I like LSU baseball making post season runs more. Best of luck to Rizy.

he was either told to leave or was told he would need a ton of reps to get right and were not able to promise him those reps

Why are those the only two options?

I hate that some guys don’t succeed… but Rizy just hasn’t been good.

Necessary decision. You have a small window to perform in the SEC but that doesn't mean he won't develop down the road. At his size and velo he will get more rope than most. GOOD LUCK TO THE YOUNG MAN.

I’m pretty sure the plate is the same width in the pros

As I understand it, it's actually smaller because the pro zone does not include the black. But if a team likes what they see, they will place him in a developmental league, and he'll get a lot more reps than he would at LSU.

For me, it was laughing at people who said things along the lines of "Jay is going to kick him off the team."

He probably wanted to be guaranteed a spot in the rotation next year, and either saw the writing on the wall with Schmidt/Evans/Moore coming back, or Jay simply told him it wasn't guaranteed.

I can almost guarantee Jay didn't voluntarily remove Rizy from the team. You can't teach 6'9 and 98 from a weird slot.

He likely doesn't even pitch in college next year, if I had to guess. Because of the aforementioned measurables, he probably gets drafted in the top 10 rounds. Who knows, some team might convince him that they can do a better job harnessing his stuff and turn him into a starter which could net him $3MM+.
