Flynn won us championships b/c of LUCK. We were lucky that there was no team in the West with 1 conference loss. We were lucky b/c OU beat Mizzou and Pitt beat WV on the last day of the season. We were lucky in 2007.
same goes for matt mauck... he was not a GREAT qb... he made good decisions and didnt hurt the team... JR hurt the team on numerous occassions... therefore, did not win a NC

Russell lost us championships by his stupid arse decisions... Flynn won us a championship by making good decisions
There really isn't an emoticon to express how much this kind of rank stupidity makes my fricking head hurt.
Russell QB'ed the 2005 team (the Katrina Team) to an 11-1 regular season record. For the math disabled, that's a better regular season record than we had in 2007. LSU finally looked the part of a team that had not had a week off all season and fell apart in Atlanta. Russell was hurt and Flynn came in and looked worse than JR did. Yes...that's true, but insert favorite excuse here as to why that was.
The 2006 team went on the road to face a Top 5 Florida which just so happened to be the eventual national champion that year. LSU was in a position to put Florida in serious trouble near the end of the first half when LSU lost the ball on a bad center/QB exchange. Despite the fact that the center came out and said he never got the ball to JR, some dumbasses still want to blame Russell for that fumble. If I recall correctly, UF scored on the next drive then promptly recovered an Early Doucet fumble on a kickoff and scored again. When the LSU offense got the ball back there had been something like a 14 point swing. That same 2006 team also lost on the raod to a Top 8 AU team in a game most Tiger fans felt was called horribly by Jimbo Fisher. When he finally allowed Russell to sling it, LSU moved the ball. And even after the horrible playcalling, LSU was in a position to score and then the phantom PI non call happened. As it turns out, 2 losses in 2006 was not good enough to get to the SECCG like it would be (thankfully) in 2007.
Flynn's 2007 team lost on the road to a Top 20 UK team...a team that had lost to the 2006 LSU team by 40+ in Tiger Stadium. Flynn's final game in TS was one of the most crushing defeats in the stadium's history, because at the time we ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL thought that LSU's chances of winning the NC that year (something we had been in the hunt for all season) we dashed with a loss to UNRANKED Arkansas giving LSU 2 losses on the season. Final play of the game...Flynn pick in 3OT.
Matt Flynn, as much as I like/liked the guy had NO HAND in getting LSU to the NCG after he threw that pick against ARKY in TS. ZERO. NADA. Since he was hurt against Tennessee the next week, Ryan Perriloux had to lead LSU over Tennessee. And unless Flynn used some kind of voodoo, he had absolutely nothing to do with helping OU beat Kansas (or was it Mizzou, I've forgotten) in the Big 12 championship...and nothing to do with PITT beating WVU. Without those games going that way, LSU plays in a BCS bowl by virtue of the SECCG win, but it sure as hell would not have been the BCSNCG...'cause that would have been OSU-WVU.

JR lost two games, but to teams with a combined record of 24-3. TWENTY FOUR AND THREE.
Flynn lost two games to teams with a combined record of 16-10, not to mention one game was at home.
Our team won us championships you gravel for brains tard. Tee Martin > Peyton!
- JR threw more TDs (good decisions)
- JR threw less INTs (good decisions)
- JR threw for more yards (good decisions)
- JR had a 12% higher completition rate (good decisions)
How is Flynn throwing more INTs, less TDs, and completing 58% of his passes good decisions, but JR is just some big dummy?
Kinda curious how you've made it through life this long with such a small brain.

Again, JR and Flynn led their teams to the same number of losses. 2007 was lucky not b/c of any extra work that Flynn put in to create the opportunity. Flynn did nothing to make the other SEC-W teams lose 2 or more games to get us into the SECCG. Flynn did nothing to make 2 teams lose on the last day of the season to vault us into the NCG.
In fact, you could say that Flynn almost lost use the chance to play for the BCSNC when he couldn't hit water from a boat in the Arky game.

I think what you may have meant to say here is that the Matt Flynn QB'ed LSU team put themselves in a position to NEED luck to make it to the NCG in 2007. Without that loss to Arky while wearing the #1 ranking and the NCG assured with a win in the SECCG, LSU would not have needed luck or help to make it back to NOLA for the NCG.
FWIW, I don't blame Flynn for either loss in 2007 specifically...but then I'm not trying to make a point by tossing a former LSU player under the bus as is the case of anyone wanting to lay the blame for the 2 losses in 2006 to 2 Top 8 teams on the road at Russell's feet.

Thanks...but this whole debate has ALWAYS pissed me off. There has NEVER EVER been a reason for LSU fans to pit those to players against each other the way they did/have. Both guys played their asses off while LSU Tigers. Both guys carried themselves well while at LSU and did nothing to tarnish the LSU name. Both guys lead LSU to tremendous wins and the duo lead LSU to it's best three year stretch in history.
And what have we done the entire time they did this? Basically fight to the death about how one guy is awesome and the other sucks donkey balls.
For my part, I've NEVER suggested Flynn wasn't a solid QB. In fact, I always respected the fact that he held to his commintment even after LSU brought in Robert Lane and then was clearly making a push for JaMarcus Russell. Whereas Lane bolted like a little bitch to Ole Miss and obscurity, Flynn stuck it out at LSU and eventually took the starting spot in his 5th year and made the most of it. So...I've always liked Flynn. But there has been a contingient of LSU "fans" that have ridden JaMarcus arse since the kid signed with LSU. When it became clear that the staff had Russell ahead of their favorite, they began bashing him. We all know his 2 year stats as a starter at LSU...and you see still how it's looked down upon as not being enough to warrent even a little credit from Tiger Fans. When Flynn's LSU team somehow slipped into the NCG and pummeled OSU, those who always disliked Russell for not being Flynn started suggesting Flynn should have been the guy all along...twisting logic to it's very breaking point in some cases to make a point. We've seen it on display again in this thread. And now finally, the guy is bashed weekly ON AN LSU FAN MESSAGE BOARD when he plays poorly as an NFL starting QB. It would be one thing to rag on Russell if you pull for an NFL team that is a rival of his Raiders...but why else would you hope an LSU player FAILS? the guy was a #1 draft pick which did nothing but bring exposure and recruiting help to LSU. Wouldn't we all be PULLING FOR HIM to do well?!? Sure...unless you're still tryingto win a 5 year old argument and you think that bashing his play as an NFL player will strengthen your point...then frick him and his LSU ties.
The whole debate makes me hate LSU fans. the good news is that we've poised on doing the SAME frickING THING to the 2 kids currently playing QB at LSU...so that's always good.

Petyon's team lost 2 games that year too, while T.Martin's team went undefeated.

RP was playing with blood gushing from his finger from a cut while playing in the SECCG. Blood was dripping from his finger and he was still doing all he can to help LSU win.
All that and he gets ragged on nonstop on here..

JR was all about JR. Was not much of a fan when I saw him walking down the hill with the team wearing a pink suit and white shoes. Why? So he could stand out.
JR cared and still cares about JR.
Flynn > JR
Yes, he played for LSU. Yes, he was good. However, he will never excel because he is too focused on himself. He will be fat and bankrupt in the next 10 years.
its not about any of that for me. Just pure on the field performance. If I had to pick one to lead my LSU team down the field in 2 minutes, I'd take Russell everyday of the week

It's all about what is more valuable to you. A good analogy:
Win + $100 or Lose + $1,000
I'll take the win....

Perriloux is a special case. While he played well and LSU certainly could not have won the SECCG and therefore would not have been in a position to RECIEVE the shite ton of luck it needed to vault into ther NCG without him...he did more than his fare share to earn the lack of respect he gets here and elsewhere form Tiger Fans. Unlike Flynn, he was never happy to bide his time and wait for his shot. His entire RS freshman year was spent sulking on the sidelines...VISIBLY pissed in most cases for not getting in. Add to that the plethora of off the field trouble that ended up forcing Miles to boot his arse putting LSU in a 2 year tailspin at QB thanks to the void he left...yeah, he deserves the disdain some give him here.
Russell has never deserved the bashing he got/gets from LSU fans. It was all a result of some fans getting their panties in a wad for their favorite not geeting the PT they thought he deserved.

Based on the enormous amount of comebacks Flynn lead?

Good analogies are relevent and make sense. This one is neither. Had Russell had a worse record but better stats, this would make sense. He didn't. He had a BETTER record in 2005 and the same in 2006.
I think you may have meant to say:
Win + $100 or Win+ $1000
I'll take the later.
