The Oakland Raiders made cost-cutting moves this offseason, shedding themselves of veteran Carson Palmer and looking to move forward with Matt Flynn, who was acquired from the Seattle Seahawks. The 28-year-old Flynn was once seen as a potential franchise QB waiting in the wings, but Ron Jaworski isn't sold on his ability.

Jaws Is A Hater

Anyone agree? He certainly doesn't have ZM arm strength but neither does Romo, Kolb, etc. What does the Rant think?

I knew there was a reason I didn't like that guy.

ETA: Jaworski, not Flynn.

It's hard to say..he hasn't had legitimate game time. The shortlived Green Bay success could've been skill just as much as it could've been the system.

Hopefully Flynn can be a decent QB for the Raiders.

They have very few playmakers on offense outside of Darren McFadden, who is always injured, Jacoby Ford, and Denarius Moore. Heyward-Bey left for Indy. The fact that they didn't have a first round draft pick didn't help. I see him throwing for somewhere around 3500 yards and 22 TDs if he starts every game. That won't translate to many wins though.

The same thing was said about him in Seattle. Maybe he's not as good as people think he is based on a couple of games.

Well if they are worried about Flynn's balls losing energy on the back end, they are not going to get help from Wilson. During the pre-draft evaluation, Trent Dilfer show Wilson's deep balls doing the same at Ark.

I was just about to say, I remember Dilfer breaking him down exactly as you said

I wish him the best, I really never thought he would have a chance to be a starter in the NFL. He should be the starter for the Raiders at least early on, at least he will get a chance to prove himself.

I didn't think arm stregnth was the end all be all for QB play?

What comes to mind though is Russell Shepard saying while tossing the ball with Matt Flynn his freshman year (off season)...he felt like a Middle Schooler...in comparison to his arm strength.

The Seattle Seahawks believed in Flynn as Oakland does now, but were let down in the 2012 preseason. Flynn showed glaring inconsistencies, finishing the preseason with 204 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Seahawks were bailed out last year by Russell Wilson,

That's a little bit of a stretch, there.

Can you point out any QB Jaws does like? Seriously. Besides the top 4-5, who has he ever spoken well of?

if I had to make a choice on which QB I'd like managing my team, I'd go with Matt Flynn. He throws it deep well enough, he also has more between his ears than the last several QB's in the Raider organization
