I remember sitting in the stadium his first game, on the first offensive play we did some shifting on the line and the crowd started cheering LOL
Bruh I distinctly remember that too. We were so hungry for a forward pass. When Etling threw a 15 yard completion against a G5 school the previous year we erupted.
If only we knew we were on the brink of a natty and generational QB followed by another Heisman QB and maybe even a 3rd one this year. 3 high caliber QB’s in a 6 year period after the previous 6 years we only had Mett.

I’ll never forget the pop from the super dome crowd on his first play call when lsu ran the most pointless shifts and motions

Those Tariffs got him shut out of football.
…..
I heard he went to an interview for a job but kept sitting down and standing back up during the interview.

Met a guy at the beach this weekend that played for him at Indiana and then got into coaching for him and said it was one of the most difficult jobs he’s ever had.

Legend has it that somewhere out there, at this very moment, one of Matt Canada's offenses is still going through its pre-snap movement.
I still remember the ooo's and ahh's when LSU first motioned against BYU in the dome. What a joke.

If Etling could have completed those deep throws against Bama LSU would have won that game.
One of those bombs was 100% on Chark. Etling dropped a dime on Chark right at the goal line, and Chark inexplicably veered to his left. Had he continued to run to the ball it would have hit him in the head.

And seeing a WR motion back and forth across the line about 12 times before they even snap the ball. I always thought damn the WRs are going to be worn out running back and forth before the play even begins.

It was against byu in the superdome

It was coach Pete initially who hated Canada and planted the seed with O that he needed to run him off. Canada did pull rank. Aranda attempted to mediate for a while but it was pointless.

You clowns are fn idiots thinking motions do not work. They do many things. You’re football ignorant like most.

Seems like other coaches with at best questionable skills continue getting jobs because of their years of experience. And Canada does have both NFL and college experience. So it’s a bit surprising to me he’s been unemployed for that long.
As far as Cam Cameron is concerned, wouldn’t he be old enough to retire?

Yeah I recall a super ugly loss to Troy, and thereafter O said this motion is messing us up, causing penalties, etc…, and I reckon Canada wasn’t humble enough to work with O in finding some middle ground.

I’m a believer in motions and shifts, but that Troy debacle was absolutely unacceptable.

In all seriousness, Canada wanted Brennan as his starting QB, but O gave him Etling. If Etling could have completed those deep throws against Bama LSU would have won that game.
His offense actually worked pretty well by mid-season once the players figured it out. But at the end of the day, it was pretty gimmicky and it’s a good thing we moved on quickly. If he had stayed, there’s no way 2019 goes down close to the same way.

But when you run as many as he did, it has to be fast and the execution crisp. If not, you burn the play clock and the defense doesn’t necessarily buy any of it as potentially real. We had a lot of that the first few games that season. It took a while for them to get it all down enough to be convincing.

Didn’t Canada get the job because Ponamsky read he was good on this message board?
