100% agreed, OP. You dont get the reputation of working with what you're given by not actually doing that.

Ed O controlled the playbook and everyone who says otherwise is either blind or naive.

Typical with freshman OL in the line up. Not to mention totally new system. Would have love to see what he could have done with LSU after a year in the SEC and no strings attached.

Bama is good. I don't think it's fair to summarize Canada based on his failures in that game. However, it is fair to recognize that our passing offense, which CLEARLY has been our weakness really didn't get any better.

The question is when did Canada get cloths lined by O? Was he allowed to continue to teach or was he just a fall guy after Troy?

His red zone offense was #4 in TD% in 2016, #10 in 2015, and #4 in 2014. All signs point to Etling/Orgeron being a major thorn in his otherwise impressive resume.

Wasn't LSU's RZ offense significantly better in 2016 with Etling/Orgeron?

I want you to cook dinner tonight and that will judge whether or not I will keep you around to be the main chef. I want a filet with potatoes and vegetables. You can not use salt, peppers, butter, onions, or any grass-fed meat. You have to use Tony Chachere seasoning it and it needs to be cook medium well and in ten minutes.........Good Luck...........................................10 Minutes later...................this steak sucks, I wanted chicken. You're awful and you suck at cooking. Ya Fired!

All evidence to the contrary. Regardless he was a cancer.

true, Canada didn't suck, but that's not really the standard we should hold him to.

Our offense was average, and our red zone production was bad.

So yes, Canada wasn't horrible, but for what we were paying him, I think he underachieved.

Then he should never have been hired in the first place. It appears now that this was common knowledge among the people he'd previously worked with, but for some strange reason, this escaped Coach Orgeron's notice.

that does not appear in a resume and for liability purposes the other schools would never mention it.

TDs are scored from up close over the middle.
uh, that's not entirely right. MANY TDs are scored on the edge, whether running or passing. Most defenses pack the middle and sell out to stop the run up the middle, so it's often advantageous to go wide.

of course it doesn't appear in a resume, but I thoroughly disagree with the "liability" theory of why no other school would mention it.

I've been contacted before by other employers about potentially hiring former employees and I try to have the professional courtesy to give a clear picture, and I'm not worried one iota about liability. True, I don't blast anybody, but I can use certain language to deliver the message w/o directly saying the employee was a train wreck.

His offense sucked. Ranked 54th in the nation. Ensminger apparently runs a more productive offense and gets paid less.

Oh bull. Had he done his due diligence like he should have, he'd have easily known this, if it is the case. People speak off the record, and Coach O would have never had to mention it as a reason why he didn't hire him. At the very least, he should have asked Canada why he's bounced around so many jobs in just a few years. That's definitely a fair question during a job interview. Coach Orgeron met with Canada for an hour, then decided to hire him. That's on Orgeron.

Matt Canada Did Not Suck as OC

He didn't excel either. I would have preferred a national search but I like E and believe he will develop our QB's and improve the offense. That being said, he must be able to make play calling decisions with being over rode by O or anyone else.
