Already mentioned but throw Pat Peterson in helping TM through a rough time also. In Pat Peterson's last year at LSU you could tell Pat.P saw something special in honeybadger on and off the field. I think Pat knew TM could take care of himself on the field but struggled off the field. Pat.P even after he got his millions from the NFL was there when TM lost his way. I could go on but this will be a 30 for 30 story. Great stuff from two great tigers.

Wish he would’ve been around to tackle Yeldon.
He would had been but was a little too busy smoking dope at the time.

Mathieu being kicked off the team is probably the best thing that ever happened to him. Hard love...
Yep. If anybody had done this for Johnny Manziel, he'd probably be a productive citizen and making millions in the NFL.
Props to Les Miles.
Also props to honeybadger for growing up. Most guys that get kicked off never do and would rather blame everyone else.

Great read on his work to get back into shape mentally & physically before his draft. Goes into Mathieu's struggles and also touches on how Peterson took 3 months to help TM get back in shape.

And look what it has produced. Talk about a fruitful tree. Tyrann Mathieu has, since that day he was let go and to this point in his life has been the former Tiger I am most proud of. The way he has turned all the shite in his life into a positive is about as impressive as anything I have ever seen. He has all the reasons to have packed it in, and this is a compliment to his parents, and Miles' staff and his current circle of people. This man is the poster child of a role model. Instead fricks in national news focus on human trash like Reid and Kaep.

TM7 was quite possibly the difference between 10-3 and an NC that year. God forbid had he stayed through 2013.
I like your thought process but don't think that we would have gotten past Georgia that year. Our defense, even without TM7 wasn't the issue that year. And if memory recalls, he was reinstated for 2013 but opted to go in the draft.

He announced he was going to the draft in November of 2012.
quote:
On August 17, 2012, Mathieu withdrew from LSU and entered a drug rehabilitation program in Houston, Texas. Mathieu's withdrawal was expected to last for the entire 2012–2013 academic year. However, on September 4, 2012, Mathieu ended his withdrawal and enrolled for fall semester classes. On October 25, 2012, Mathieu and three other LSU former players were arrested on possession of marijuana.
On November 29, 2012, it was announced that Mathieu would enter the NFL Draft. Mathieu participated at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine on February 26, 2013. He ran a 4.50 40-yard dash, had 4 reps of 225 pounds, a 34-inch vertical, and a 117-inch broad jump. He also later participated at his pro day on March 27, 2013.

It's a travesty that people still think smoking weed is bad enough to potentially ruin someone's life over.

TM7, you always have a home at LSU.

Les helped the kid out by teaching him a hard life lesson but without PP7 this story has a different ending. Pat made sure that TM7 rebounded from what happened. He served as a role model for someone who needed it badly.

Also, Yeldon fumbles to LSU on 3 yardline. Alabama player is coached to go in an start a fight. If flagged they only go back halfway to goal line. Yup, familiarly LSU player retaliates, is flagged, LSU gets 15 yard penalty. Seems like a rule change is in order.

It was marijuana not crack.
It was bad decision making. Sure crack is worse than weed, but the heart of the problem was his decision making. Getting booted from a team he loved and isolated from his teammates and friends was a massive wake up call and Tyrann was smart enough and committed enough to completely change his decision making and mindset. We all see the result.

It's kind of the same thing with Perrilloux. He came back and hugged Les during practice that one time.
