So if the polls are accurate, put it up to vote. It should fail anyway so what will it hurt.

Every poll taken on the issue is at least 2/3rds against.

The fact it's even that high though is probably a major problem. The people of Alberta sound like they're tired of their national government constantly appointing absolute retards to run their country.

Maybe Canadians actually are waking up

If they aren’t yet, they soon will be … with a frickin’ quickness.

Within the next two weeks, the US will formally cancel the current USMCA agreement, assuming the bilateral with Mexico is ratified, …. thus triggering the 180 day countdown to ending it.

When that is announced, it is widely believed that Canada’s currency will drop to $0.50 to the US dollar. Their economy, already deep in a recession, will crater.

Canada is firmly entrenched in the FO phase …. and they did it to themselves …. truly sad at how Canadian leadership has done this to its citizens.

Where are you seeing this? That would be huge news and I haven't seen it reported anywhere.

possibly causing at least BC to have to leave as well

and at that point, may as well get NWT and Saskatchewan to head out too. Not for any of the reasons you mentioned, but why not.

The vote on whether to maybe have a secession vote isn’t going to be close to passing

They more than the required signatures for the vote, but their court shut it down because they hadn't consulted with First Nations beforehand.
Based on the petition having the signatures, I wouldn't be so sure how the vote would turn out.

quote:

The Stay Free Alberta petition (organized by Mitch Sylvestre of the Alberta Prosperity Project) met the legal signature threshold for a citizen-initiated referendum on Alberta independence.?Cbc?Elections.ab

Key details
Threshold: 177,732 signatures (10% of votes cast in the 2023 provincial election). The UCP government under Premier Danielle Smith lowered this bar in 2025.
Verified total: Elections Alberta confirmed 222,597 verified signatures (via statistical sampling at 95% confidence) on July 24, 2026. This came from roughly 279,000 valid signatures out of an initial submission of about 286,000–301,000.
The proposed petition question was: “Do you agree that the Province of Alberta should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state?”
Important caveats
A Court of King’s Bench judge quashed the petition’s approval in May 2026, ruling that the province had not properly consulted First Nations on potential impacts to treaty rights. That decision is under appeal, so further steps on the citizen initiative remain stayed.?Cbc?The Globe and Mail

In response, Smith’s government scheduled a non-binding referendum for October 19, 2026. The separation-related question asks voters to choose between:

Option 1: Alberta should remain a province of Canada.
Option 2: The Government of Alberta should commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada.
