LSU did not have a good team this year. Get over it. We will improve next year.....hopefully.

This is all true and well put, and watching some of the games today made me realize that we rarely play with a high level of effort or any sense of urgency. But also having watched Kermit's half-time and post-game interviews today - I compared them in my mind to CJJ's half-time interview vs. TAM (and most of his court side interviews which all seem to say the same thing). Not saying that Kermit should be a target, but LSU needs to find someone with a little more basketball acumen.

People have pointed this out for two years. Last year's team underachieved as well. They just weren't the epic failure that this year's squad was.

My only gripe with your post was the above statement. We didn't get Johnny because we lowballed our targets. We got Johnny because out basketball program had zero fan support and the alumni all rallied behind Johnny and promised to promote the program. Johnny is paid what he is worth.

Definitely won't argue with that. With that said, do you think Joe of F. King will make a push for a 2.5 million coach? Or even a 2 million? I just have no faith in them...at all.

I HATED the hire when it was first announced, but got on board after his intro presser. Seemed to love the school, brought in quality assistants, and was going to recruit well.

Unfortunately Johnny is what we all thought he was. A mediocre sun belt coach. If the guy can't have success with the team's he's had the past 2 years then I don't know when anyone can ever expect him too. The admin has to realize this as well. Giving Johnny another year only sets us back further.

I do wonder if Treloar could have made a difference this year. Probably not since I think this team's issues go deeper than just coaching.

The guy definitely likes the school. He is a likeable guy as a human. But he's here to coach, not make friends.

Treloar would have made a difference. How significant? Who knows. I think Musselman made a little difference last year

Probably didn't want to be at a place where his input may not be valued.

I stated during that search that Tubby Smith could get us back to respectability and then when he's ready to step away after 5-6 years then we would be attractive to a top quality coach. Well, Johnny may have actually done that. The program is in much better shape than when Trent left, but not it's time to go find that "next" guy who can keep us moving forward. I don't have any confidence in Johnny to recover from this season. He's had all the talent he'll ever get the last two years and he's too deep into his career to expect big improvements in his game strategies.

I was thinking about this the other day. Someone should bump the first game thread vs McNeese. We had a 20 point lead and let it get semi-close. Lots of sunshine pumpers blew it off and said no big deal. Simply looked like a typical Johnny Jones team to me.

It's nice to have a Simmons caliber player, but when Darcy is the guy coming off the bench, we are not as talent as we appear

Hornsby diving for that loose ball in our home game where we beat aTm is the only true "playoff" hustle play that comes to mind from this year

SFA was AMAZING! However, in LSU's defense, they could not have looked as inept as supposed powerhouses like W. Virginia, Michigan St. and Arizona did in their one and outs.

Hustle and playing smart/fundamentaly will get you a long way.

When we did play hard we seldom played smart, and we played hard less than any LSU squad I can remember in my 40+ years.

We can rationalize the reasons why to mitigate CJJ's responsibility in this if we like, but the bottom line is when you can't get your team to play hard consistently and when they do there is seldom a sense of purpose behind it, you aren't going to achieve near what you could.

Very disappointing. Having a hard time enjoying a tournament I usually get very much up for because my team left such a bad taste with me.

It also begs the question...is it that hard to get your kids to compete and try?

The player has to have the "want".

The only players that had that this year were Hornsby and AB. Unfortunately, Hornsby can't play another year, and if AB is smart, he will go pro or transfer.

Me too, secretly holding out hope that maybe they are waiting for the tournament to be done. Probably a pipe dream though

Get Underwood here and fire Jones.

It pisses me off every time I log on to here, and find out the LSU bb team still has that 10,000 lb anchor around our neck, noneother than that useless arse Johnny Jones. Politics at work as usual, with success a mile behind who is sitting in that coaches chair . I wonder what it will take to get him fired. I thought GoodOleLess couldn't find his arse with both hands, but JJ makes him look like Vince Lombardi. With all the natural athletes we have in this state, why do we have to settle for this type of failure ?

At first I was sad LSU wasn't in the tourney. Now I'm actually happy about it. I can watch high-level college basketball without watching a 14 point lead evaporate without a timeout; guys hustling for every loose ball; big men who can both defend the rim and post someone up on the block, etc, etc.

Just start rooting for Wichita State and the Ron Baker Farewell Tour. It is a thing of beauty to watch.
