Don't see why he can't give you 40 pitches. Don't expect him to be great and have a ton of velocity. If he can simply hit his spots and limit the big hits he'll be alright.

Hopefully we can make plays in the field and those 40 pitches can get him into the third inning, but we seem to like to make errors and extend our pitchers pitch counts, like we did last night with Fontenot.

I guess he could get the game started
I don't see him throwing more than 20/30 pitches
Let him start game and you can piece rest of game together

what if we get a Thursday-Saturday super regional and need him full go?

There aren't any Thursday-Saturday supers. It's Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday

Bullpen Day/Opener role for 1-2 innings? I could see it and let Hellmers eat up innings like Coleman last night.

At this point in the regional, you throw whoever you can.

Started 9PM Friday
9PM Saturday = 1 day
9PM Sunday = 2 days
9PM Monday = 3 days

But that's just the way I look at it.

Unless this would somehow jive with his normal throwing schedule I don't like it. He has a professional career to think about.

Maybe he went to the HC and said "I can give you a few tonight. I want the ball!" It's HIS potential pro career. So if he wants to go I'm going to give him the ball (within reason)

Guys used to pitch a gazillion innings without much issue. No one would be asking him to throw 100 pitches. Maybe two innings and/or 30-40 pitches, at best

I mentioned the idea of him pitching an inning or two last night, and another poster said if we are going to do that it needs to be to start the game.

Well here we are.

If he can get the top of the order down one time without any damage I'd consider it a win. By the time he warms up, pitches the 1st, and warms up for the 2nd he will have already well exceeded a bullpen session. I wouldn't count on him to be effective for much more than that

I could see it going either way. Just realize a bull pen workout on 2-3 days rest is different intensity than a game 7

Is pitching an inning or 2 similar to a bullpen session he would already be throwing today?

yea it is. He can probably go 40-45 pitches.

figured he’d pitch 1-2 innings in this game, didn’t think it would be to start though

Makes sense tho. Can stick his normal routine to get ready as opposed to coming in relief.

If true, this is a total change in philosophy after PM sat Lange out against Florida both games in Omaha.
