Like Superman misses Kryptonite
Like Trump misses Jeff Sessions
Like Star Wars fans miss Jarjar
Seriously, those days sucked. It was like our great depression. We lost early and often. It is so nice to be able to watch the games and see LSU playing up to its potential. We have a great team now, a great mindset, a great coaching staff and Juggernaut Joe is a blast to watch.
Anyone else here survive the Hallman years?

On November 12, LSU lost to Southern Miss 20-18 in front of the smallest Death Valley crowd since 1974 (announced attendance was 51,718, but LSU officials estimated the actual crowd was closer to 40,000). Two days later, LSU athletic director Joe Dean gave Hallman an ultimatum–resign or be fired. When Hallman refused to resign, Dean fired him, though he was allowed to finish out the season. He closed out his career at LSU with a 30-12 win over Arkansas—the Tigers' first regular-season win in the series since 1956. His overall record was 16–28; his winning percentage of .364 is the worst for a non-interim coach in school history.[4] To date, Hallman is the only LSU coach since the formation of the SEC to have never tallied a winning record or coached in a bowl game.

An underrated awful aspect of the Hallman years was seeing that goofy bastard not wear a belt with his tucked in shirt

Yes. This. My friend dated his daughter and it felt like he was dating the enemy.....

Down voted you for reminding me of him!!! Didn’t need that tonight.

How could we not keep a coach that gave such inspiring motivational speeches such as this jem at a presser after a loss explaining the technique for a victory in the Tigers next game: "Well, you see, you have to take that piece of leather and do something with it. You can't just take the piece of leather...you have to DO SOMETHING WITH IT! Game plan set, let's go get'em. What a clown

At least LSU didn't have the problem of people leaving early because there wasn't anyone in the stadium period....
Best thing that I can say about curly is that he gave me the opportunity to buy some great seats that I still have today...

The answer given to a reporter’s question, “that’s been our Achilles’ tendon all year” was pretty sweet.

A reporter friend invited me to Curley's first game week press luncheon with the expectation that I would go with him every week (credentials were much easier to obtain back then). After hearing Curley use every football cliche & a hundred dumb country sayings during his 20 minute talk, I politely told my friend I would not be his guest at any more of Curley's pressers. It was unbearable to listen to him.

I don't know anything about this guy, cause I was born in 87` . Why didn't he have a belt on in that picture?
That's unreal, never seen an adult do that. Was that a one time thing?

Oh, yes, I survived the Hallman years. Every last one of them.
He coached the 1991-1994 seasons.
I enrolled at LSU in August 1991, graduated in December 1994, and never missed a home game.
Worst. Luck. Ever.

Lol. You got the full effect then. I know nothing of coaches before dinardo. So what's the story with the bring the magic back thing? Sounds like its the year after this guy was fired..
Oh yeah, someone explain the no belt thing, it's bothering me. Lol. Was that a one time thing?

“Bring Back The Magic” refers to good football by the Tigers prior to Curly.
Hallman won with Bret Favre at S.Miss. Dean thought it was because of Curly.

And the WORST AD LSU ever had (no it was not Joe Aleva) wanted to keep Curley Hallman.
Yes, the illustrious Joe Dean who damn near sank the LSU Football program and let Dale Brown hang on for several years too long wanted to retain Hudson "Curley" Hallman. Then he botched the hiring of Pat Sullivan and had to go back and ask Gerry Dinardo to take the LSU job.
Yes, I remember those dark days.

I have you beat.
I enrolled in fall ‘89 when Archer was running the program into the ground. I joined Tiger Band and never took a bowl trip.
Graduated in ‘94. Turned around and enrolled in law school for fall of ‘94 and graduated for good in ‘97.
I did get to see Saban coach once, though. He was the head coach at Michigan State when DiNardo had “brought back the magic” and I got to go to Shreveport to watch the big deal of the Tigers playing in the Independence Bowl.
I left BR for good in ‘99 to take my first big boy job and recall wondering who this Nick Saban guy was that they’d hired afterward because there wasn’t anything remarkable to remember about him at the bowl game.

His $90,000 a year salary was way too much.
And for the youngsters that number is not a typo.
