Could be. I probably would if I was the AD.

Okay Scott Woodward, it's time for you go to work and offer Jay Johnson a lifetime contract. Let Johnson name his price.. He definitely earned it.
LOVE CJJ.
HATE lifetime contracts.

This board hates Woodward for offering money.
That's not true, look where Jay is and the coaches $ ahead of him and it is very obvious he is going to get paid. UVA coach to MSU is getting a tick under $3M + incentives and he hasn't earned a title in years after earning 2 earlier in his career. Jay should get at least $3.5M - $4M base and I'm leaning towards $4M and he has friggin earned it winning 2 titles in 3 years when it just gets more challenging to win 17+ games in the SEC much less getting to Omaha.

Arizona to LSU is like going from the brewers to the Yankees. He’s here at LSU for the long run.

Burrow’s call for a lifetime contract for Ed O would have worked out spectacularly right?

Jay ain't the type of person that's going to hold LSU hostage, he's just not. LSU will make an offer....and he'll accept it. And we should under no circumstances give any coach a lifetime contract.

quote:O was ZERO threat to leave after 2019. Hell, no other school was interested. Everyone realized it was Burrow and Brady in 2019. When both were gone after '19, the program imploded.
The O contract extension was just dumb. Was anyone really concerned that he might bolt away from LSU for an extra million or so and a chance to coach somewhere else?
And also, O's deal was to be paid LESS than other head coaches and use the money to hire elite coordinators. That model (which was idiotic to begin with) shouldn't have been tossed aside just because of one glorious year.
Joe Alleva (who did the original O deal) and Scott Woodward (who gave O the ridiculous extension) should be ashamed of themselves.

That's a horrible. Lifetime contracts NEVER workout for more than a handful of years.
Nobody is bigger than a program as the Tennessee football coach stated. Long term contract? No problem give him 10-12 years but not lifetime.

It shouldn’t even be as long as 10-12 years. They will definitely bump him up to close to Schloss. But knowing Scott, he will probably make it 10 years for the headline of a $50M contract.

He wasn't even the highest-paid football coach going into that season, trailing Saban and Swinney. I think it was (and still is) par for the course when a football coach wins a national title
It’s par for the course because most ADs are idiots.

i'm old enough to remember joe burrow advocating for this

I don't know exactly what it is, I just know it's typical for that type of language to be in the contract.
In other words, you’re speculating and don’t know.

Raise? Yes. More years? Yes
Lifetime?
