You're on point with this. If you talk to the majority of the players that have played for him, the pitchers in particular, they do not care for the man at all. Most coaches play a big role in their players lives, after playing for them. In his case, most former players really don't want anything to do with him. It's one thing if you're winning national championships or even building character, but neither one of those are being accomplished with the way he handles things.

Is that why Mainieri's former players return to LSU to stand in line to work for him??

if your going to use quotes don't paraphrase to make your point

If Mainieri had not mentioned names, there would be as many clowns on here bitching because he never holds his players accountable.

I have coached at the college level.

Why aren’t you any longer and what level?

A multitude of reasons. The most important reason was that I had a significant health problem that I battled for 6 years. And my life and my family became my priority. The second reason was the pay just wasn't enough and the path to getting the better pay was not something I wanted to endure. I had my time. I still compete and still volunteer. But it's on my terms now.

Now I make 5x more and work 1/2 as much. More time for me and my family. It's pretty simple really. There's a lot in life I want to explore and I couldn't do that coaching.

I just personally don't like PM's style of coaching and think LSU could do much better.

He's coached at LSU for 12 plus years, so that's at least 150 players or so. Because a handful want to coach at LSU or work their way into the college game means they want to work for him? Even if it is because they want to, that still leaves a lot left to not care for the guy. I've had conversations with players that have either won a world series with him or made it to the CWS with him, and they don't care for the guy at all.

It’s bad enough losing but blaming the kids you're supposed to be coaching is just despicable.
He’s the coach, the buck stops with him.
I was never pro or anti Mainieri but I’m disgusted and disturbed he’s not taking the blame when he’s clearly failing them as a coach.
Injuries aside as a coach you take the blame and protect these kids that committed to play for you.
I hope he gets ripped a new one for this.
I hope he’s replaced soon.

he didnt even bring up Fontenot. He was asked about Fontenot by name to open the interview and to end it.

Regardless The coach should never publicly blame a college kid for losing a game.

Yes of course several visible plays hurt us. A bunch of hidden plays did to. We do not know what pitch was called and if it hit a spot. We do not know if the hitters executed. Whatever. The other teams are all good.. ole Miss was trying to win the game as well.

We have so many people hurt it kind of does not matter.

correct. He ended the entire interview with the phrase "it cost us the game." He was summing up the whole game and all of the things discussed in the interview.

I'm not a big fan of Mainieri. But, this thread is based on a lie created by the OP.

go watch the interview. He didn't blame Fontenot. He discussed what happened with Fontenot after the media brought up his name twice. He concluded the interview with, "it cost us the game" as an overall conclusion of the talk. It wasn't a shot at Fontenot or blaming him. He was just summing up the game.

The OP should be ashamed of this thread. And everyone who just jumped on to bash our coach should be ashamed as well.

Yea blaming the players once again when he is the one who put this product on the field. He needs to walk away from the game.

Because you talked to a handful that didn't like him, that means the majority don't? You sound as stupid as the person you're chastising. None of us know how the majority of the players feel about him.

LOL. I'd be happy to discuss this in person.

If you look at the path of most college coaches it's very long and difficult path. It wasn't for me. And TBH, I got bored. I like to learn new things. As far as pay, it wasn't in the big three so the pay was just not something that interested me. I'm doing exactly what I want to do right now.

I suppose you have a close connection to Pawful? Because you are the boards leading protector of him.

No, the reason why is Pawful has a history of hiring former players, and it's a good springboard into coaching to have LSU on your resume. So, it's more about getting an SEC job at a top program, than to learn from PM. It's pretty common for someone trying to transfer into coaching to get a job under a former coach.

But thanks for trying to sway it differently.

Nah, not close to him. I talk to him a couple of times a year. I'm pretty sure if I met him away from the Box he wouldn't know who I am. And that's okay with me.

And I don't "protect" him.

Skip Bertman told me over 20 years ago when he was still the head baseball coach that there is a big difference between being a fan of the baseball team and being a supporter of the baseball team. He said the team needed more supporters.

I learned from his comment. So, I try to support the baseball team.

Unlike you.....
