I find it funny that all of you shite heads that hated paul last year suddenly love him. Every bad thing that happened in a game was his fault. Has Paul made some questionable decisions? Yes. But every baseball coach has. I'm glad he represents LSU.

A lot of people said we would struggle this year because we lost Lange, Freeman, Robertson, and Deichmann. I think the guys we have replacing them are just as good (except for Lange). We will have another youngish team but I see a CWS appearance this year.

And Pap. And Poche. And Walker. And Newman. We WILL struggle.

Can't wait for the people who want Mainieri fired after our first midweek or OOC loss

The truth is that Skip assembled a merry band of mercenaries for one more chance at a swansong. That 2001 bunch had an element on it that was unlikable as shite. That shortcut made it tough on Laval, and then he clearly wasn't up to the task thereafter in any event.

The truth is the "band of mercenaries" Skip assembled weren't here anymore in 2007 when Mainieri took over, and Laval's recruiting was terrible. He consistently signed players that would never make it to campus and had no backup plan. The cupboard was bare outside a couple players when Mainieri got here.

Poche wasn't exactly lights out at the end of the season. Newman wasn't either (if I'm remembering correctly). Pap is huge and I just forgot to put him up there. Walker is huge as well. We are LSU. We will be fine.

I don't think it's too absurd to think we'll have some early season struggles considering what we lose (you forgot a few FWIW) and the relative uncertainty of all 3 of our weekend starter spots. But safe money is on us getting it together and playing our best ball in April and May, as always. I'm excited to see how things shake out.

What I find so funny about the CPM haters is that they honestly believe Andy C. is a better HC. After one year as a HC & only 2 yrs as an assistant. At LSU, which, in my opinion, had a lot to do with his rep.

agree. I think a lot of fans never really played baseball and tend to judge a decision solely on whether it came out good or not.

I hope you're right but the starting pitching makes me nervous. last year, we had lange and poche' and everthing was optimism. of course, they had their ups and downs but that is forgotten.

all I can say is what Maineri did two years ago with 8 new starters proved to me what kind of a coach he is.

Cannizaro is 0-5 against Mainieri. Wouldn't a "better coach" win at least 1 out of 5??

PM pulled Gibbs and OTB replaced the spot with Canni coming on the show (which was kind of a slap in the face to LSU).

I'm loathe to give those two idiots any credit, but I think that was a good move to highlight the absurdity of taking Gibbs off the weekly segment.

Not to mention we kicked their arse in 3 of the 5 and our series with them in the regular season was on the road. However, in fairness to Cannizaro, State overachieved from what they were expected to do last year. He, by all accounts, did a great job in his first year there. I do agree that it's ridiculous that people think he's a better coach than Mainieri as things stand today.

-Smith will likely lead off in the lineup this year.

This is something I've said previously I wanted to see happen, so I'm excited to see that it will.

quote:

Slaughter will play 3rd initially. Talked about how he was the man in high school and now that he's in college he's not used to having set backs. Talked about Hal Hughes stepping in if they have any struggles.

This makes it sound like Hughes won't be starting at 2nd. I would expect him to still get some playing time early though. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Slaughter plays a little OF this year, and especially next year if he doesn't get drafted high enough to leave.

quote:

Cam Sanders will start the season as the mid week starter. Reminds him of Aaron Nola on the mound, said his stuff is very similar. Where Nola has the advantage is his control, though he said Sanders isn't ultra wild and when he keeps it around the zone he's "special." Said if he can consistently hit the zone then he could be a weekend guy.

This is very exciting for a few reasons. Lofty praise for Sanders, minus the control part obviously. But also, if they're designating a weekday starter already, they may have a pretty good idea on a 3rd starter already. With Labas hurt, I'm guessing Peterson and Fontenot leading for that spot.

Cannizaro did a heckuva job at State last year. Their pitching injuries finally caught up with them.

For us this year, I want us to play to win it all and not just to be respectable. Do it CPM.

Pffft, come on, man, Canni lost 27.5 front line pitchers to injury during the 2017 season and still trotted a productive lineup out every week.....

I do think the guy is going to be a very good college HC and be a thorn in LSU's arse.

Lol you’re a retard.

In all seriousness though, I’m very excited that baseball is almost back. No matter how the season ends I always enjoy every game because baseball is the greatest sport on earth.

Of course this years team is going to have struggles but I wouldn’t put it past CPM for us to exceed expectations on what’s supposed to be a down year because he’s done it several times since at LSU.

I’ll also go ahead and start it for all you midweek people and say Fire Mainieri!

GEAUX TIGERS and enjoy the season everyone!

Bryce actually has good gap to gap power. Not sure why that would be a problem. Obvious answer is Watson who has tremendous bat speed.

I’m not IN THE KNOW like others, but I expect Watson, Slaughter, and Cabrera. Also I think more of Smith’s fly balls find the seats instead of the warning track.

Slaughter
Another good answer. He and Cabrera consistently had the best exit speeds throughout the fall. But Cabrera's were almost always on a line. He'll probably have 5-8 HRs.
