Nope.

What about when we got left out of the tourney with our 36 or whatever RPI in 2010 or 11

That was an incredibly bitter pill to swallow on the heels of being left out in favor of Mississippi State when their AD was on the selection committee and being told that RPI mattered.

shite, I saw LSU win a midweek game against Grambling a few years ago and their RPI STILL took a hit. They'd have actually been better off if the game had been rained out.

Dallas Baptist, a couple years ago, had one of the top RPIs in the country. They got rained out of a three game set with some shithook school from the northeast that otherwise would have weighed them down.

It's why I don't think we should ever play a SWAC school other than Southern. And I think we should play Southern every regardless of RPI affect.

It was actually 23 or 25. Highest RPI to ever be left out of the tournament.

However, if you'll recall, that team started out with some ridiculous W/L record like 32-6 and then just fell apart. Had the wheels not come off for that team in the last month to six weeks, they were a shoo-in to host at the very least.

Perhaps I shouldn't say it's ALL about RPI. That's not the only thing the committee looks at. But don't poo poo it's significance, either.

am I missing something? We made the tournament in 2010 and lost to UC Irvine. Why are people saying we were left out?

And yet, you can book it: the makeup for the San Diego rainout will be Grambling, J-State, or Alcorn. It's an easy out because SWAC teams play about 45 games and have a month between the end of their season and the start of their tournament. Why, I don't know.

They mean 2011. Got swept by UF, Arky, and Vandy but finished the season sweeping Tenn and winning a series vs Moo State. Had a very high RPI. State gets in instead of us.

We got left out in 2011. With a high RPI.

They are off by one year. We got left out of the NCAA tournament in 2011 when we didn't even make the SEC tournament.

It was then that they expanded the tournament to include almost every team (10). This was just prior to expansion. ETA: And then they included 12.

Skip was guaranteed to host under the old format basically no matter what. He correctly identified that mid-week games were meaningless in that system. LSU hosted even when they weren't the top seed. Mainieri is not afforded that luxury. Mainieri's midweek games are of some importance and comparatively are VASTLY more important than Skip's were.

Paul has been a national seed 5 years in a row and they lost midweek games during that stretch. Complain all you want about how lsu has done in the postseason but the last 5 years CPM has proven he knows what it takes to coach a team for a full season and be a top 8 seed which during the regular season is as good as you can hope for.

I think my opinion is fair based on how many other conclusions fans are drawing from a month of the season before SEC play had even started. Check the baseball threads based off single games/at bats. I'm more secure with what I've seen from Eric Walker then half the bs I read about the baseball team.

Who is complaining? It is undisputed that the baseball environment that Skip competed in is nothing like what Mainieri competes in. Drawing comparisons to how things were done under an old system is stupid. Skip had bigger rosters. He had a different postseason format. There were relatively few powers. The conference members did not emphasize the sport the same way, etc.

And yet, we're still getting national seeds. I think its safe to say that doesn't matter as long as we take care of business on the weekends

And I hope you're right.

But I've seen this all play out before. Too many times.

Gasp! 3 to 4 losses?!?! In a baseball season? That's completely unacceptable! Undefeated or bust for Mainieri next season!

I get that losing midweek games sucks, but it's really about making sure our pitchers take their lumps and we can see what we have. The real question is why we left runners stranded nearly every damn inning. We should have put up double digits on them. My humble opinion is that the lineup needs a few tweaks, but I'm sure Mainieri will continue to tweak it over the next few weeks until we get production where we want it.
