I guarantee you he’s not putting in the hours Jay Johnson is

I believe him and the AD are very close.

Does anyone think Mainieri takes that job knowing Tanner was going to retire in 3 months?
Nope. In fact I think they are really close friends.

I have no idea why you'd want a rebuild job at 67 or why you'd hire someone that age. Neither make any sense.
Because being a college baseball coach doesn’t suck as much as our jobs. I’d gladly work until 70 if I was free to travel for 4 months a year, make a couple million bucks, and just work the phone when I was traveling.

He's not wrong but at the same time he's responsible for roster construction so ultimately it falls on him. SCar won 13 games and made a regional last year, they've won 6 and missed the postseason entirely under his watch, barring a miracle run to win the SECT. With the portal now, it's his fault he doesn't have anyone that can throw gas and hit for power.
He's been there 11 months. It's a bit premature to blame the roster solely on him. The portal works both ways, and he didn't inherit a good situation.

Once again- he tells the truth and the rant gets their feelings hurt.
I don't understand the hate for Paul.

If you watch the interview, he didn't throw his team under the bus.

kind of a message to boosters and admin, you wanna play like the big programs. You have to go out and recruit/buy the best talent.
That’s a message you deliver personally and directly to the boosters and the admin right now

Throwing his kids under the bus saying they are arse, ooooof
How was he throwing his kids under the bus? He was stating facts based of statistics. Sometimes the truth hurts. He is right. LSU has better athletes. There is a reason why LSU is 42-13 and ranked #1 in the country and consistently has a top 5 recruiting class every year. You have to be able to recruit well to be good. They don’t have that.

He’s not even a top 10 SEC coach. They are in trouble
Posted on 5/18/25 at 8:53 am to tigerskin
He’s not wrong and frankly, I appreciate his honesty. Why blow sunshine up the asses of kids who are going to be selling insurance within three years.
As the late great Larry Munson remarked after the 2003 SECCG….Tonight the Dogs were beaten by a bigger, stronger and faster team.
It’s not about the X’s and O’s, it’s about the Jimmy and Joes.

Portal door slamming wide open in Columbia.

What he said may be true - and he should not lie about it -
BUT dayum! he could have stressed how well his kids did rather than just pointing out their physical limitations.
Did he ever say how proud he was of their effort???

That’s what I hated about CPM when he was here. Guess what Paul, they’re your players! YOU are responsible for YOUR team!!
Instead of saying we don’t have guys doing this or that he should say “I’ve got to get my players to the level of hitting 19 homers in a year. I’ve got to get my pitching staff where I have a few that can hit 100 mph.

Maybe it has been delivered? Some don’t want to hear it without pressure. You think Kelly and staff weren’t hammering the same message to our boosters before underwood? Sometimes it takes public pressure to make the needle move

Program obviously has potential to be elite. Wasn’t long ago they went back to back!
IMO you have to go hire a young guy that can recruit. Go offer one of Vitellos guys. Shoot Josh Jordan could be a great pick up for them.

quote:exactly. That is not being honest, it is just not showing any confidence or encouragement towards his team who fought their butts off for him.
I think the right thing to do there is just general coach speak about “proud how the kids fought, we need to get ready for the sec tourney now. Moving forward we obviously need to be better”
Can’t tell people on here that worship his arse anything that downvote anything negative about him. It is a pattern with him and has been that way the entire time he was at LSU.
