Ross Dellenger ?@DellengerAdv 5s Recent SBNation numbers crunching story says Astros would have to offer Aiken no more than $5.4M to have about $1.5M left for Marshall. #LSU
That's wrong.

Mac's friend said he wanted at least 2, but yeah 1.5 is a nice chunk of change
It is but he could come here, learn under Dunn for 3 years while partying and slaying sorostitutes for 3 years and put himself in the position to make much more. Do the right thing, Mac.

if he only gets 1.5 and throws his arm out he's still gonna have to work for a living eventually

Nix's is signing at 1.1 over slot. His total signing bonus is 1.5.

Astute observation.

I've reiterated everything you just said throughout the entire thread

Do the Astros have other overslots than Nix?

Nix agreed to $1.5 million already, around $1 million over slot. Aiken's slot is $7.9 million, so $5.75 million would leave about $1 million left over to offer Mac.
Is there a rule against prospects signing a guaranteed contract? As I understand it the $'s being discussed refer to signing bonuses. Why couldn't the Astros sign Aiken to a contract for $4M that has a guaranteed salary that makes up the difference? Then use the rest of their unused bonus towards others?

Who would turn down 1.5 million?

The salary of minor league players is structured. it's the signing bonus where these guys make their money.
