To be good in college and ready for the pros are two different things
Tim Tebow is a prime example
Now Tim maxed out in college, Smith definitely has more potential than that. But coming back to college would have been the right decision for both him and for LSU, IMO. But the only opinion that truly matters is Smith's

FACTS are he got fed some HORRIBLE advice
That’s as true as the OP. As recently as the middle of the season Smith was being moved by double teams and he wasn’t beating a lot of single blocks. He looked like a guy who might never play in the NFL.
During the last half of the year he got better and better and looked the part of an NFL prospect in the last two or three games.
Was his decision good? It kind of depends on the story he has to tell the scouts. Was his injury causing the poor early season performance, and as he fully recovered he got better. If they believe that he’ll go high, but I just don’t know the truth.

Throws around terms like libtard and retard, but wants everyone banned like a woke liberal would.
What a hypocrite.
Oh, and Masson played like shite. Retard.

Well, I think it’s like when he was a PROMISING freshman here. Huge and strong. However he played very slow. I think there are NFL teams that will take a chance on him but he will absolutely have to be way faster off the snap and quicker getting off the initial block.

Maason doesn’t suck, he just needs a good year without injuries to show he is a first rounder. He was not 100% this year. He came on towards the end of the year. If he stayed and showed out he would be a very high draft pick.
By going this year, he may not go too high and end up costing himself a lot of money. I wish the guy the best and hope he impresses at the combine and get himself into the first day of the draft.

I hope all fans wish him success. The way the defense was coached this past season; my choice would have been easy. I believe he will do well and reason for down seasons were to do with coaching.

Good guy. Wish him the best.
Patience is a virtue. Think his jump to the NFL
a bit premature. I believe he would have benefited from another season under Bo tutelage. I cannot help but think he would have improved his draft stock, but I guess being injury prone does have to be taken into consideration. Judgement call only time will tell. Hope it works out well for him.

You people amaze me. If he’s so bad, he sucks, he needs to come back, why the hell would you want him back. Maason WILL have a long prosperous NFL career if the injury bug doesn’t get him. FACTS

This 100%. It’s the difference in going fourth or first round.

He will look like a million bucks at the combine. Drafted no later than 3rd round and be on his way to his second contract. I agree with a poster above. Why shite on our own. Makes no sense

He wore a “0” for a reason..

This and coaching 100%. This was by far the hardest defense to watch right next too Pelini 2. Atrocious

Possible but not likely

His decision was misguided, but he did nothing at LSU so no loss.

Mason is ok if he can bullrush. Thats about the extent of his talent.
That knee injury screwed him up.

No one knows what kind of career he'll have. In a different scheme he might be an all pro and have a long career or he might not make a roster. One thing is for sure coaching and scheme definitely hindered his and all the defensive linemen ability to make plays.
He should have waited until the new coaching staff was in place before declaring for the draft. If he'd came back and shined he could have been a first day pick.

Mmmm.......Yeah I dunno bout dat.

I think the argument is you likely go 3rd-5th round as it stands and you have to show out extremely early or you get cut and your nfl career ends early. As opposed to staying having another year to develop under Bo and a break out season. Which would propel you into the first or second round where teams are far more invested in you.

I do think he will have a long NFL career. He also should have came back for another year of development. Both things can be true.
