The fact that Gage was getting on the field at all was significant
I'm glad to see him getting a shot but I guess I don't see how a back up receiver getting snaps is the equivalent of reinventing the wheel to some people.

Mainly at WR. It is a well known fact that the previous regime favored two guys.

That's not breaking news. He has always been a bitch.

....I haven't seen anyone suggesting this
just acknowledging the obvious, that perhaps the assistant coaches wanted to see a few other players get some time

I guess. I'm going through the passing plays now and 9 of the first 15 were 3 or 4 wide. Getting that many players on the field at that position is going to lead to more PT for guys like Ferguson and Gage.

The personnel changes came with the varied packages. Many skill players were used in four-wides, the I-form and ace (balanced 2TE, 2 WR, 1 RB) formation.
Using a lot of TEs, WRs and RBs now prevents the defense from knowing what play is coming or what player is the primary target on pass plays based solely on specific personnel groupings.

Even with more 3 or 4 wide sets, Gage getting 40% of the snaps was unexpected and something everyone noticed, thus the question.
I have no idea why you are arguing this
Nobody is shocked about Ferguson being the #4 WR coming. People are shocked at Gage being the #3 WR coming in on a lot of snaps.
Before this game, if we went 3 wide, it was always Dupre, Dural and Chark.
Hell we even saw Gage as the #1 WR on several formations in 1 WR sets.

why does sconas questions always suck?
He needs to stay in the Admin's good graces so he can get a shot at a gig with LSU network one day. Look at the niche Gordy has carved out for himself. That's gotta be a goal...

Dont think that will happen with scona. Gordy at least had an in bc he played football. Scona is strictly radio and i dont think they would ever give him a head job like hanni does with the post games for football and baseball.
Scona will prolly have to go a different route and stay with ESPN for something better.

Because that's exactly what happened. O allowed the position coaches to make the decisions on personnel, aka, who should play and who needed a rest. Because of this, you saw a much better flow to the offense changing people in and out. In the past, Miles and Cameron would call a play, and then say who they wanted in at the skilled positions. It created mayhem of people running on and off.
This was the case not just with Gage, but with every WR that stepped on the field, TE and RB's. It's why you saw much more of a RB rotation between Guice and Williams, as opposed to Guice sitting on the bench an entire game watching Fournette play.
I'm amazed at the amount of LSU fans that watch every single LSU snap and don't pick up on the smaller things of football. So many fans that don't understand just how middle school our offense was prior. The fact we would run in a RB to play fullback on a fullback dive, we would have a WR cover the TE on a running play, of course the famous toss left to start games, options to the short side of the field, the acknowledgement that we would purposely avoid throwing to the middle of the field because it was "dangerous". An offense that didn't have a four WR set, much less 5? Maddening.

Do you care to point out the major changes in personnel Saturday?
This question came from Ensminger saying he left the personnel decisions up to the position coaches, that it was their job and he trusted them to do it.

Didn't hear this, thanks for sharing!
All I asked was the background for the question. I expected there had to be something more than a different WR3 getting playing time, but if Ensminger said that then I understand the source of the question.

Boy. Beefense is going to be the KING of "I couldn't connect dots if my life depended upon it" these next several weeks.

the fact that Jazz Furgeson and Russell Gage played didn't seem striking to you!?

The personel question came up he talks about delegating. Position coaches has significant input or maybe even control as to which players are on the field

They came in as 3rd and 4th WRs. I wasn't able to hear the radio show so I didn't know what the context of the question was. It seemed to imply there were some major moves, of which I don't consider the 3rd and 4th WR to be a major shake up, so that is why I was asking.

The difference in getting the plays called and players ready for the snap was very obvious to even a casual observer. There was time for Etling to look over the field and actually make audibles without worrying about delay of game penalties. My one caution about having specific personnel packages for certain plays is that opponents will not take long to figure out what is going on. So LSU needs to keep making changes in personnel packages that are not clues to play calls.
