This past season lsu spent the 3rd most NIL dollars. The 2 teams above LSU were, Texas and Ohio State. LSU’s return on investment this past year was catastrophic.
The most obvious suspects are, injuries, coaching and talent evaluation. LSU coaching is not the problem. Brian Kelly has the second most wins among active coaches. Injuries were a problem this year but I think the biggest problem with lsu is player evaluation! High player turnover in the portal usually means you misevaluated them from the start.

Perhaps lack of coaching is the problem.

This is stupid, they're not paying every guy for a single season. I'm sure a chunk are paid based on the hope they'll contribute for at least a few years.

I don’t how accurate these numbers are being reported
Lsu doesn’t have a budget like Texas schools and Ohio st and Michigan
Even bama is falling behind their peers
Even smu outspending lsu

Maybe. However, there isn’t any data to prove, disprove, or even improve this all too nebulous aspect of building a team. It’s the holy grail within the chrystal ball.

It takes years to know if you have evaluated correctly. What you say could be true for every winner or loser in every game.

Far better to focus on tried and true training and coaching methods of the best talent you can assemble. Purge the talent that doesn’t respond to these methods and go again.

Every program has an inescapable limit to the number of attempts afforded.

BK still has enough support to continue. But there is a point that we haven’t reached yet, and I hope we don’t reach, that says this guy doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Reports are Ohio State paid their team $20 million and reports were Will Campbell was our highest paid player at $500K. If that’s true, we weren’t even close to being the 3rd highest paid roster.

Where are you getting this information?

Can you link your source? As of this summer LSU football spent 8MM in NIL which was middle of the SEC. You cannot look at the total NIL because that is split between sports….

Last year lsu didn’t even go in portal that heavy
Only reason they are doing more this season is because of revenue sharing agreement that impacts 25 season
They lost high school recruits to usc and Texas and Ohio st by dropping out of bidding war

And I also saw on here from a recruiting article yesterday that LSU spent way less than the avg last season... Sources on NIL are not accurate

Lsu put majority of their money towards recruiting class and didn't allocate much at all to the portal last year. That would be more of a Ole Miss statement if anything.

It’s impossible to verify, but insiders say our roster cost about a third of what Ohio States did. Like 7 vs 21 million.

No they didn't. If you're going off of that article that dropped several weeks back, it's been debunked. They put LSU at #3 based on historical support from the fan base, not actual dollars spent on NIL.

The reality is LSU was way behind in NIL spending last year.

Every time I see someone say coaching sucks, I’ve yet to see who you (or any one else) suggests instead? I’ve asked repeatedly. Never get an answer.

I think message board fans just love complaining without ever having to ever offer a solution. Not like in real life where you actually have to come up with a solution — on a message board or social media you can just whine incessantly with no need for a solution. Brian Kelly has put a crap ton of guys in the NFL. Not everyone is a superstar. Not every player can become a superstar.

3rd most in nil spending on just football or overall? It’s easy to forget about the other sports involved in nil when you’ve got football on your mind.

Check

I would add coach evaluations and hirings too. Moffitt released. Team can't finish four quarters or stay healthy. Raymond not retained. Defensive Backs nonexistent except for a season of senior transfers. Transfer misses there, too. Brings Raymond home. Matt House and the entire defensive staff minus Cain. Specials Teams is far from the LSU standard. How many mulligans does a veteran coach need?

LSU coaching is not the problem.

No check. They're lost on the sidelines at times. It's as if adjustments can only be made during halftime.
quote:

Brian Kelly has the second most wins among active coaches.

That speaks to longevity and wins. Look at who he beat. See how he performed vs ranked opponents and on big stages. It's very revealing.
quote:

Injuries were a problem this year

LSU has been weak, gassed, and injured often since BK arrived with his super scientific strength and training team. Big difference since Moffitt was let go.

I think the biggest problem with lsu is player evaluation.

Check. This is up there with the unimaginative, very predictable coaching. LSU is relying on the evaluations of other programs by pulling 10+ deep out of the portal. There are no 2024 CFP teams in the Top 10 of Transfer Portal Rankings. Some celebrate #1 portal ranking, but it highlights the coaches own HS evaluation and development deficiencies. LSU has become Ole Miss, Nebraska, etc. 2025 should be an upgraded roster with little to no depth. Then, back in the portal for 2026.

Evaluation is a major concern with this coaching staff, but to say that certain coaches on our staff shouldn't be replaced is really signing on to mediocrity for a long stint.
Players are aware of the quality/reputation of the coaches they will potentially be playing for, and although it isn't the number one issue any more, NIL $ is for sure, it is still a factor with parents and top players future.
LSU is losing in that part of the equation in certain areas. BK does not have enough good history to inspire players on to greater things imo.

Can you share the source for LSU spending the 3rd most on NIL? From all reports I’ve seen, LSU was below the SEC average last year. False premise to your argument

Something else needs to be added - the type of athlete we recruit

Needs to be more than just talented, locker room cohesiveness is a big deal
