We gave up one legit FG to app st and the rest were garbage time points.
N Texas hung three on us.
We allowed Auburn to score twice on offense.
We allowed 24 to Miss St. without best two DT's and our best linebacker.
We really suck balls.

Please stop posting your rational, measured commentary on this topic. It has no place here.

NCs are not won with excuses. And Miles wants another crystal ball soon. To get it this year, the 5/10 coverage schemes have to be worked out and executed better by the Ga. game or we will not win that one. They are not going to be happy about the blammer fiasco in Bulldog land...Richt is going to try his damnest to come in here and get after us just like Croom did...but with much better overall talent. We had better have better coverage worked out by then...and I think that we will.

i wasnt mad that we got a win over Moo st. dont get me wrong. i just thought giving up 24 to what seemed to be going in a very very bad offense.

u would have liked to seen our d make some stops there at the end when we knew Moo St was going to be passing.

The couple turnovers the offense gave up put us in bad spots. The big plays also put the Defense back on the field after short breaks and injuries. Quit being spoiled, you people claim we gave up all these points to Auburn and Miss St when they only scored this many against eachother, well WE BEAT BOTH OF THEM and MSU wasn't even as close as the 10 points we beat them by. Was anyone honestly worried about this game? With all those new starters on D, we still have played very well. As a matter of fact, its hard to remember more than a handful of bad plays on that side of the ball.

Look, I hope you're right! It just seems like so amny teams give LSU their best shot for some reason...they get up to whip the NC...If our line dominates, then all will be well...but you must admit...MSU looked better than they should have.

we've gotten by this year, but look confused on coverage quite often. I am just a viewer when the game is on nationally, but it seems our biggest weakness is similar to 2003, in that we are vulnerable to passes to the back out of the backfield. We seem to lose track of the back a second or two after the snap. It was scary against MSU.

I was unaware that MSU was supposed to look or play a certain way. Things change week to week.

if Ducre would have caught that guaranteed TD pass it would have been a little different game

I agree that there is a patern. Florida, SC, and Georgia will exploit it over the following weeks if something isn't changed. Hopefully the defense will be healthy and the pass rush can be effective to offset some of the blown coverages.

Blown coverages!

You nailed it. When these very average QB's are picking up chunks of yards vs an LSU defense, yes...we should expect better, then someone or two people are out of place. That Lee kid for Moo U has them all excited now........

Hello trex1250

Me thinks you have succumbed to what Saban refers to as catastrophe syndrome

Look around...

UGA scored 30 on UA in one half
UA scored 31 on UGA in one half

Ole Miss hangs 31 on UF
UF hangs 30 on Ole Miss

You get the drift. . .anyway, there were some missed tackles the other night that sure didn't help with sacks and or stops

MSU QB played lights out. . .that 40 yd pass he dropped in over double coverage in the 4th quarter would have done Peyton proud

MSU was playing a game on the weak side against LSU and it is difficult to completely shut down

Here's what was happening

MSU would get in trips to one side and leave a back in on the TE side

This makes the defense play either a match up zone or straight man to man on the back side

It appeared LSU was playing mostly man on the back side with LB on HB and CB on TE

TE would release and pick LB, HB would hit flats
Riley would react and typically gain was short. It may have looked like the guy wasn't covered but each time Riley was coming like a locomotive and gain was short, until...

The time MSU changed things up and instead of the back hitting the flats, he ran the wheel route. . .Perry, saw the back release and hauled tail to where he thought he was going. . .when he realized he'd been had, he gave hot pursuit but he was toast by then. . .luckily ball was not caught

Now, for EVERYONE hollering to blitz more, these are the kinds of circumstances that can be created if the QB is mobile (he was) and the right play is called (it was)... watch the film and you'll see LSU in some sort of blitz around 1/2 the time on pasing situations (making it harder for the offense to predict what they need to do)

If Riley takes the right angle on that play he's in good shape...If LSU tackles well many of the longer gains never get started

And, I'll say it.. .the defense HAS NOT played poorly. . .2 TD's to AU at AU is a good recipe for having a chance to win the game and, there were 2 picks for good measure

Finally, if MSU's QB plays as well as he did Saturday night you're going to see those guys give a lot more teams issues

Saban just called. . .the sky is not falling regardless of what some may be saying

TRex, you really need to check yourself here. The reality is that the defense has played well, but not as well as we've come accustomed to these past several years. Part of that is trying out new schemes, and others is the anemic passing offense much of the first two games.

Against App St., we shut them out for the first half with the first team. They scored on second and 3rd teamers in the second half, and only managed 13 points. 6 points came on two FGs either because of a turnover at our 10 or a blown play (penalty) on a fourth down that we stopped them at the last moments.

Against UNT, we threw pick to our 25 and they scored a FG. The defense played solid, but people want to see <100 yards total offense it seems.

Against Auburn, we gave up a Pick 6 for 7 points. The other two TDs came on two 3rd and longs that were a busted coverages that extended a drive that lead to a TD and one that was a TD. We played Auburn at Auburn, and they played better on offense then prior in the season. They got beat up and played Tennessee this weekend.

Against MSU, we gave up an opening 50+ yard kickoff return and held them to 3 on that drive. Got 2 consecutive turnovers (a pick and a fumble) in our territory and gave up the TD partly because the defense was tired. In the second half, we had lost our 2 starting DTs and they simply ran screens and HB routes. Our LBers didn't commit against this and it cost us twice.

Please remember against MSU, the team just came of serious emotional win, and survived. Look at the UK game last year. We had a hard fought, emotional game against UF, then played UK and dominated them early outside of one drive and then got complacent. Jackson got injured and we made silly mistakes. It happens. This team is also testing out some new schemes and MSU tried a new QB that we had little film on.

Overall, the defense has room to improve, but I'd rather them start slow and gel and finish strong then like happened last year. After the VaTech domination the defense slowly got worse and worse. This year we hopefully will make adjustments as we go along.

hey TYSON JACKSON if you are reading this its TIME, its TIME TO CRANK UP WHATEVER YOU GOT FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. you could be a 1st rounder, but you need to give everything you've got on every play. do you realize how much money you will get. you need to mentally just rip up everyone you take on. drop a few pounds and come on. you could make the highlite reels every week if you just make a promise to play lights out. thanks TYSON

It was hardly a 'guaranteed' TD pass. Riley was 2 steps behind him and the Ducre would have had to stop slightly to bring the ball in. Riley pushes him out of bounds or dive tackles to his legs and the kid is down at the 50. That was NOT A TD PASS.
