LSU’s 2nd Half Defensive Dominance vs. Clemson. D deserves more credit

After Clemson scored with 10:49 to go in the 3rd quarter to pull within 3 points at 28-25, Clemson was SHUT OUT the rest of the game and only had 65 yards total offense.
If you take away their last drive where Lawrence fumbled, Clemson only had 32 yards total offense after their early 3rd quarter score as LSU pulled ahead by 17 points sealing the game.
The Defense was dominant by the end of the season. That performance against Clemson really was one of the best ever. When you combine that with what they did against Oklahoma and Georgia, it has to be one of the best defensive stretches in the history of LSU football.
The 2019 Tigers will be forever remembered for their offense, but the defense came on at the end of the season to play dominant football and should get credit too.

But, but, but...
LSU doesn't play defense.
Haven't you heard?

The Ole Miss game was the best thing that happened to this team. They were disrespected after they lost focus in a game they were winning 28-0 the week after the biggest win in 8 years. The defense was ELITE after the Ole Miss game and saved their best for last.

Outside of Texas and Bama our defense always made adjustments 2and half. I remember Florida came out and took a league against us and they dodmt score again.

Both sides of the ball were terrific most of the year.
Once LSU was so far up on teams, the defense relaxed a little while the other team was trying its best to score to save face.
But when they were healthy and trying to play their best, the defense was one of the best in the country.
Although I think LSU had 2-3 more scores in them against Clemson (if they had actually tried to score in the 4Q), the defense could easily be pointed to as the reason LSU won that game. Stops in the 1Q, tight coverage and forcing TL to throw on the run, Queen sitting in TE's hip pocket all game.... the list goes on and on. Absolutely dominant by the LSU D.

I agree. The defense was top shelf by the end of the year. What defense was better. tOSU, Clempsin? Maybe Aubie or UF? Our defense came to play when it mattered most.

Clemsons talent at the skill positions on O is as good as ours, it simply is. Ours produce more, and our WR3 and TE really put us over the top, they cant match that, but the pure talent and ability they have at QB/RB/WR1/WR2 is god damn ridiculous.
And when it mattered most they got beat up and shot.
Sunshine wasnt sailing passes becuase he forgot how to throw overnight, it was because he could either throw the ball, RIGHT NOW, or wake up to a trainer asking if hes ok. And when that moment came, there was simply no where to go. Lanes that looked open pre-snap suddenly werent, WRs that normally got separation suddenly couldnt.
The game was just like the season, we struggled for a while at first but when it came time to close things out, Aranda showed why he was paid what he was.

Coachw became a mute after the half. Egg in face every time, it’s like he never learns his lesson.

I have to be honest with you. I was shocked Stevens wasn't flagged for a personal foul on that hit. It was basically the same thing he was flagged for vs. Miss. St. (Not that I think either should have been a flag). It was clear the pressure from the edge affected Lawrence in the second half as he rushed several throws.
To that end, it took a while for Chaisson to really start living up to the (probably unwarranted) hype as a feared pass rusher. But boy he couldn't have picked a better time to start playing into that hype. He was one of, if not the best, LSU defender in the final three games.

quote:from a refs point of view it was clean but pointless, so yeah, a flag there would not have been shocking

Maybe on paper. Against elite competition-LSU and Ohio State-they didn't produce at an elite level. Points, not combine numbers, win games.

Yes it was. Very impressive. We Surprised Clemson with our line of scrimmage dominance.
