Congratulations to Coach Willis and the Bengals on making it to the NJCAA Division II Championship Series. They will play Western Oklahoma State tonight at 7:00 PM in Game 1 of a 3 game series.
I know he does not get a ton of attention, but Jeff Willis has been astounding as a baseball coach at LSUE. Last night he earned his 900th win as a head coach. He has sent some guys to many programs, especially LSU, that have become household names. He has also had the benefit of getting guys that did not workout at LSU to play for his program.
It’s off topic, but it’s baseball nonetheless of a school in the LSU system.

Click the link to find the game. I think you have to pay $30, but you can watch each game.

they really really need to jump into JUCO 1 and get out of JUCO 2. it's almost comical how bad they beat those juco 2 schools.

I used to think it wasn’t that big a deal, and there are good juco teams everywhere at every level. But they really do need to make the jump. They also schedule terribly. They bring in a bunch of week schools from all over and rarely play the big time programs in Texas and Florida.

Willis chose to not start his Ace on full rest. They’ve pitched 5 guys to this point in 5th and getting drilled 9-2. Very questionable move. Still overwhelming favorite to win next two but........

Willis would be chewed up and spit out at LSU. He does not have the temperament or personality required to coach in the spotlight of LSU or any major baseball program. Yes he's won a ton of games at LSU-E but he thinks he's Nick Saban. Kids go there, not for him, but for the chance to play at a big-time program after him. When you go JUCO, that's all you care about and he has a hot brand that pulls to itself and is in the heart of SEC country. I know a lot of kids through the years that couldn't stand playing for him.

CONGRATS to the LSU-Eunice Bengals!
Go Center Fielder Carter Quinn!

LSU-Eunice would be an interesting Mid Week match up for LSU!

I'm up here in Enid...doesn't look good tonight unless they rally to take this first game...I hope I get to see them win the NC...

I agree. Game 1 is always most important.
Hopefully they can make a comeback in the next 3 innings. They’ve threatened to score a couple times but couldn’t finish the inning whereas Western had a big 1st inning.

I do not believe Willis could coach at high profile Division I school either. I wonder what he makes at LSUE since he’s also the Athletic Director?

I'd expect the Bengals to come back with their ace Jerry Couch (11-1) tonight and take game 2. He is on short rest (by college standards), having thrown 7 innings on Sunday but its do or die time.

Agree. I think they throw Couch, win, and this thing goes to game three, then LSUE's roster depth wins out.

I was ready to shite on Willis until the follow up poster said he pitched 7 innings Sunday.

You think Sunday - Thursday is full rest?

Props to Willis for holding the kid.
