So , does this set a precedent? First time a team/community loses a home game(we now have one less home game next year) as a result of a natural disaster that happened 3 states away

Ya'll MFers acting like our home advantage has even mattered past the 2nd quarter this year.

Please recall that LSU floated NUMEROUS scenarios to get the game played IN Florida, as well in adjacent venues. Florida sat on its hands, as did the SEC, and in effect, rejected LSU's proposals. Talk about concessions! Go back and read what LSU offered to do!

That's the other shoe I'm waiting to see drop. LSU's "player safety" talking point still stands, even if it's not three straight road games in 12 days.

Why do you care about playing Florida this year at the expense of a tougher road schedule next year??

Unless you expect LSU to run the table? We still lose out on a game this season because of them.

I care more about our future than a possible meaningless game that has us give up another game

I wanted UF at home badly next season

Would have been epic

Not sure why it would matter how the crowd was PAST the SECOND half... The stadium would be empty.

YES
And also in 2018. We'll see a lot of Gainesville in the near future, unless they have another < gasp > hurricane.

We're not just talking home field advantage. Other factors are player safety and a huge negative financial impact for the BR community with one less home game next year.

I'd guess A&M on Thursday is still happening. This was the only solution that doesn't affect other SEC teams schedule.

This would be great news if we were still undefeated and had looked like the contender we were suppose to be this year. Even if we continue to play lights out like we saw against Mizzou and somehow win out, even as an SEC champion we would only be 10-2 and idk if that will be good enough to get us into the dance.

Id rather have said screw it and keep the future games as they were. However we'd then be on the hook for some of the blame ourselves if we ended up beating Bama and winning out but they still went over us to the sec champ with a higher win percentage.

To play one less conference game this year is a gamble Id be willing to take cause I don't think LSU will win out. But the melt on this board calling for Alleva's head would be astronomical if we do win out and that situation occurred. The only reason he should accept this deal is if he truly believes this team can go undefeated the rest of the way.

Rest of the SEC schedule on 11/19 sucks, so a CBS (2:30) start is all but certain.

This sure makes it sound like we're paying the SA buyout out of pocket...

We get to play a game that up until now we'd all assumed was never going to get played. It's mutually beneficial and I'm cool with it.

I don't see it as mutually beneficial, I mean break it down

2016
Pros:
- Homefield advantage against an SEC opponent that was a road game in 2016
Neutral:
- Subbed out a home game for a home game ($$$)
Cons:
- Schedule got harder without an appreciable SOS boost since we're playing the same teams

2017:
Cons:
- Lost a home game ($$$)
- Lost homefield advantage against Florida

Counters to the only pro in the 2016 season:
- There were alternatives to this such as just playing the game in the swamp like we were supposed to but Florida dragged their feet on it
- There were alternatives that involved getting Arkansas/Georgia involved that would've been messy for the league office but a neutral and fair trade for us (And to be fair I don't think moving the UF/UGA game was ever feasible but hey)
- We're teetering on the edge of playoff elimination as it is, one more loss and we're mathematically gone, and the odds of us running the table and getting in this year are slim as it is. What exactly do we gain by favoring this season to next season?
- Florida is benefitting by moving the game later, moreso than us having homefield advantage by letting their players heal, so it's barely a concession on their part (In a zero-sum game like college football the other guy's gain is your loss!)
- Florida theoretically would've gotten insurance money for the game being cancelled so with their revenue concerns out of the way a Division tie breaker instead of the regular vague bylaws for this year only would've been the most fair way to handle it for everyone involved

Frankly I think we got screwed. It was a pretty clever maneuver by UF and I think their athletic department deserves some props post-game cancellation for doing whatever it takes to preserve UF's interests, but our guys dropped the ball and left us hanging. It won't really affect 2018 because we would have been in the swamp anyway but for the 2017 season we lost an advantage that we should have had for no particular reason but to give a concession for Florida's concession. It's a bad trade.

edit: also that ended up being a wall of text dang

I made plans to go out of town on the 19th with the assumption we would be playing USA, not UF.
