We have Sampson and Onwosaur who can both be that slasher and get to the paint, they just don’t get the minutes or opportunities.

Yea you probably have never played basketball past junior high.

Hey they are hitting a lot of threes. Guard the theee and stop letting them hit it!!! It’s so simple. Hey their big men are scoring in the paint. Let’s put all 5 players on their bigs

Another “basketball” fan who has probably never watched a game before the Ben Simmons era

most of the year we have run the same "just get it in" inbounds under the goal that Trent and CJJ ran much of the time with Duop or Epps pinning a guy to his back and us just lobbing it to him
i don't really find that to be true. we've had several instances of running an inbounds play and getting a good look, most often scoring. inbounds and fouling really haven't been a problem all season which is a sign of good coaching. rebounding, otoh, hasn't been good and that's a sign of hustle and effort

I'm assuming the excuse is since there were no classes held on saturday all of the students made the 10 hour drive back to their parents house rather than staying on campus.

Stuck with the plan because victory was always in sight. They were much more physical than us on the inside. Alternating the setup from 1-4 low to the double high pick and role was the ticket. And it worked....you have to take advantage of what the defense is giving you. Next year with more offensive firepower, he can get a bit more daring and flexible.

First, I went to the game and this is the first time that I feel comfortable criticizing Will's X's and O's. Our game-plan was obviously to take a lot of 3's, but by the middle of the second half it was painfully obvious to everyone in the PMAC that our shots were not falling, but we were hitting from the free-throw line, so why not drive to the basket and get to the line. Conversely, their 3 point shooting was very good (only reason they were even in the game), so we should have been contesting every outside look, and if they want to take it inside, their free-throw shooting was terrible.

First of all, I didn't watch the game and but read about it on here. You may be right about all of your criticism. Your post leads me to believe it was a very subpar coached game by Will Wade with nothing positive mentioned. But the opinion I got from some of the most respected basketball posters on here, I got the feeling that Wade made an absolute brilliant game changing move, whether adjusting out of need or a planned ambush with the 1-3-1 switch at the end.

So what are your thoughts on that move?

Wade has tried a lot of different defensive looks this season but I wish he’d throw a little bit of all of them every game. Using the 1-3-1 a couple times down the stretch worked well vs Mizzou and the press has been effective in short stints a few times this year as well. We aren’t a good defensive team personnel wise so why not throw them a multitude of changeups every time out? If we can’t stop the better teams maybe we can throw their rhythm off for enough possessions to makeup the difference. Also strange that with all the things he’s tried this season he’s never tried doubling the post.

Conversely, I don't find your observation to be true. IMHO we've had several instances of lobbing into Reath and yes a few attempts at legit inbound plays.

I will grant you this, T\there has been more of an attempt the last 3 games at real inbound plays than in any stretch all year. And we've had to call a couple of timeouts and it's still been a bit of a struggle. It may be WW was not happy with execution and just said let's just get it in till you can execute.

I can say this with confidence because I watch specifically for that every time because it was such an issue under both Trent and Johnny. I can recall 2 or 3 instances of an inbound play leading directly to a score this year and I remember being very pleased because most of the time it's been lob in to Reath and hope he out-jumps the guy guarding him.

Brilliant move on his part, probably the only reason we came out of there with the win. He absolutely gets credit for making that move.

Having a bad defensive team and trying to press and constantly change defenses is not a good idea for a team that plays bad defense to begin with. Get the best out of whatever the best defense you have. We can’t press teams. He changes up the defense in opportune moments which is all you can do with a team like this
