It looks like Peoples is the DL coach and KW will work under him with the DL. That’s exactly what it looks like.
Incorrect. Peoples coaches Edge players. Williams will coach the DL

Amazing how many people are applauding this but didnt want Kevin Mawae hired to be the OL coach
Well mawae had literally ZERO coaching experience.
Williams may be under qualified but at least he has some coaching experience and has local recruiting connections+has sent players to LSU which in theory gives Kelly and the staff some idea of his coaching abilities (based on his guy’s technique etc)
Mawae reportedly just wanted to be given the job. Williams has put in the years to be moving up. Ruston high to the SEC is admittedly a jump that wouldn’t happen without his playing days and connections but it is what it is

So you think it isn't fair to say a guy with zero coaching experience above HS, not even an analyst job, isn't underqualified? Whether he will be good or not is not the same as being qualified. FTR, I do not have an issue with the hire, I am not particularly excited about it either. We will have to see a product on the field to assess how this will turn out. I think it may work out well, he was very good at Ruston but that is still high school. Kevin Faulk put together some good offenses at Carencro then came to LSU in a player development role then a running backs coach and he didn't exactly shine (though I think he gets more grief here than he deserved).
This is my stance on the hire.
I don’t hate the hire, we’ll just have to see how it goes. He was an awesome player so I do feel pretty good about it but we’ll have to see how it works out.

quote:Well, it seems that the recruiting part of the job is less important than it once was when you can just meet the recruit's number and he's in the boat. My concern isn't recruiting or even technical coaching. My main concern is evaluation.
We will be technically sound. I just hope he can recruit.

Steeples played in the nfl 13 years, made 6 probowls, and has the respect of nfl football players nationally?
I said he had a lot of the same qualities as Kyle Williams, not that they’re the same person. But Kevin Faulk played in the NFL for 13 years and he was arse as a coach. I’m just saying that BK should’ve done a much better job with this hire on paper considering the stakes

Keep reaching, there’s no difference between the 2. One’s a hall of famer and the other is borderline and may actually make it in. As far as coaching experience, Ruston high school vs sec coaching is laughable. With that said I hope he succeeds bc that means LSU succeeds

I don't remember if I previously posted my opinion of KW on here or not after BD took the Saints job.
KW was Semjase's #1 choice.
All the cute little Wokester Trash will absolutely hate the hire, so that makes it all the better.

This is a home run hire regardless of experience.
Do championship teams normally hire coaches from high schools?

He hasn’t recruited one person in his life. That’s scary

Kevin Faulk coached for 1 season at lsu. 1 bro.

2024 Ohio State
- TE coach was never more than an analyst/QC guy before being hired as a position coach at Ohio State.
- LB coach was never more than a GA (and only for 2 years) before being hired as a position coach at Ohio State.
2023 Michigan
- WR coach was hired as a position coach at Michigan from a HS job, no previous college coaching experience.
- TE coach had never been more than a GA (again only for 2 years) before becoming a position coach at Michigan.
I’d argue a 13-year NFL career with 6 Pro Bowls, followed by 4 years at Rustin, is more experience than any of the guys listed above.. who coached for the past two national championship teams. None of these guys had been position coaches or higher at the college level prior to being hired. Only one of them had more than 2 years’ experience at the college level period (as a GA, analyst, etc.) before being hired as a position coach.
ETA: I’m not saying he’s going to be great. He might not be. But him being hired at LSU isn’t as unprecedented as you’re suggesting.

A graduate assistant works at the college level like an assistant coach while they are graduating. Again that is at the college level. So you didn't name one I will give you that that came straight from high school. We will see I hope it works out

Do you really think this resume is better than Kyle Williams’?

2018-19 Michigan - Student Assistant (Tight Ends)
2020-21 Michigan - Graduate Assistant (Offensve Line)
2022-2023 Michigan - Tight Ends
.. or this one?

2022 Notre Dame - Graduate Assistant
2023 Ohio State - Graduate Assistant
2024 Ohio State - Linebackers
The second one is James Laurinaitis, who is probably the closest comp to Williams having had his own 7-year NFL career.

Well that’s not true.

I never said that Ruston high=SEC I said the opposite in fact. But 5 years of coaching at the highest LA high school level where he has has had to work on translating his knowledge to young kids and also having fellow contacts in high school coaching circles for recruiting vs zero coaching experience is a significant difference

No we are cheering because the man knows what the hell he’s doing and teaching when it comes to Dline play. Williams knows everything there is to know about technique and how to be a great Dlineman. Let’s not give up on the man before he’s even coached a day a LSU
