Give the rant a chance to complain about something they have a choice to avoid and they will choosing bitching and threatening to give up their tickets instead of the rational solution of parking elsewhere, taking a bus from a designated location, taking a cab from a designated location, carpooling and splitting the costs, or simply not going to choosing to hit up Walk-ons before.
If LSU's football environment wasn't as strong as it is because of the tailgating environment, I would agree. A number of your solutions aren't exactly feasible if these groups want to maintain the same level of tailgating as they have in the past.
Most are not upset with charging. Its the game by game manner and the logistical nightmare that is poised to occur next September without some adjustments.

The auxillary fee of 5% will remain the same. Academics gets 5% of the gross LSU athletic budget of 86M.
Now, LSU Athletics will be paying for music instructors, tiger band stipend, cox academic bldg and tutoring, all schlorship athletes now. This amounts to 1.8M
They are using the parking monies to go towards that and restrooms and toward the general athletic funds to pay for facilities. Dont be fooled into thinking all 274 faculty members given pink slips have a job in 6 months as a result of this new increase parking fee.

There you go. LSU academics dumps some previous expenditures on the atheletics. You pay more parking. LSU athletics still remains self sufficient (Im sure there are other avenues that they are exploring as well). LSU academics benefits. I said the fees are indirectly helping academics and this proves my point.

Athletics helps the academic side and overall university by being good. Applications go through the roof when we win on the football field. There is a huge incentive to win a NC in football and it isn't just for the athletic prowess.

You're probably about 15 of the pages.

1. The Athletic Department shouldn't have to subsidize the University
2. When the University comes out of the budget crisis, I'm guessing they'll stop charging again, right?
The AD is using the budget cuts as a method to justify this increase.

Stopped at 3. Obviously you stopped counting at that point.

Here is how I see it: New parking prices will lead to a 10-20% decrease in traffic on game day. The budget minded folks will either have to be dropped off or carpool. You are being ridiculous if you think this small fee will keep people from coming out for a day's worth of tailgating.
The non-students that can't afford the $20 or $40 per automobile (split x number of ways by passengers hitching a ride) don't need to be on a University Campus on a Saturday (unless they are taking classes). They need to be working a second job.
Less vehicular traffic makes for a better game day experience for everyone. If I was a local commercial business with a large parking lot, you better believe I'd be running a $2 shuttle on game day (offering curbside drop-off).

Lobby Bobby Jindal to help the budget. Athletics wouldn't be there without a university. The athletes are students and the school is helping them be a success for after athletics. Believe me Im the first to defend the high coaches salaries, stadium additions etc., but in times where the school is going through a crisis athletics needs to do what they can to help out otherwise they are just club sports or semi pro teams.

This is a valid point but a bridge that must be crossed later.

The 5% auxillary fee more than covers a few of the expenditures academics pays that athletes also use.
Now athletics is taking 100% control of those and plus giving the extra 5%.
I thought things like Bayou Country Fest and the 7M LSU athletics made from that was to offset charges like that and to keep athletics at the same profit margin.
I have no problem paying for parking in previous free spots. Make it $10 and have it for season ticket holders and passes given when tickets are mailed. However, also open up some areas to be used as free parking so non ticket holders can still enjoy a tailgating atmosphere and not be forced to pay to park.

No. I'd like the University to learn on its own how to produce a quality product for the right price and trimming the fat.
The Athletic Department seems to have this under control.
The AD is not exclusive of the rest of the university. It's not a private business that just happens to share the name Louisiana State University with some random school located in Baton Rouge, LA. The AD should give a hell of a lot more money back to educational programs than they already do.

Those who don't want to pay it will just park further and walk. It will still lead to postgame traffic. Those who are just going for the day to tailgate are already gone anyways.
T. Boyd lot was 1/2 empty at the start of the WVU game this year.

I agree with the other guy. If you can't afford to pay the money, then that's the least of your financial problems.
Certainly. But who am I to say how someone else should spend their money?
Regardless, we're getting off topic. Most are upset about charging.

That's the point. They don't have to pay their money on this.

They are an auxiliary unit of Louisiana State University. Thus, they abide by the same guidelines as the other auxiliary units (Student Union, Chartwells, etc.). I don't see LSU Dining giving money back to LSU.

Are you aware LSU and Nebraska are the only 2 schools in the country that are self sufficient, receive no state funding, and give back millions to the university?
